Beiler’s Doughnuts

When we visited the Reading Terminal Market, we found this lovely doughnut spot with a long line. My hubby wanted to get some doughnuts from here, so we decided to get in line as well. They have been making the doughnuts the Amish way for 30 years, each one hand rolled, and of course, made from scratch.

It was fun to watch them create the wonderful, fluffy, sweet goodies right in front of m eyes while we were waiting in line. We were getting more and more excited as we watched them work!

But then, there was an obstacle before we could get to the doughnuts… We still had to choose which doughnuts to buy! All of their doughnuts looked sooooo good, it was not going to be easy… But then again, you don’t have the luxury of time to look carefully at each item, while there is a long line of eager customers waiting behind you. Oh, the agony…

We somehow managed to pick half-dozen doughnuts quickly. At this point, we figured any choice is a good choice from this popular spot. We went with Mocha Crème, Coconut Custard, Key Lime, Oreo Crème, Maple Nut Crème, and Boston Crème ($5.99/half-dozen).

We started with Mocha Crème first. It is filled with a delicious mocha flavored crème. It had the mocha crème on the top, with chocolate and icing drizzle. In the inside, they had the same mocha crème, lots of it! The dough is super duper fluffy and light, amazing! It was so good, I understand the reason why it was so popular.

Then we went to Coconut Custard. It is filled with a Bavarian Crème topped with white icing & dipped in coconut. It had lots of fresh coconut shavings on top. I am usually not a big fan of shaved coconut, but they had them really nice and thin, and fresh, so it was pretty nice. It had velvety, creamy custard filling in the inside. All the doughnuts have the same base, vanilla-y dough with different topping and filling.

Then Maple Nut Crème. It is filled with maple flavored crème & topped with fresh pecans. I liked the pecans that added crunchy texture. This one didn’t have much filling as others, but since they are all handmade, they can’t always make them perfect. It was still very tasty, nice nutty flavor.

Key Lime was the one that my hubby was most excited about. It is filled with a homemade crème made with fresh lime juice, drizzled with white icing. Again, the filling is also put on top, making them extra creamy. It had a really strong key lime flavor, very refreshing and citrusy from lime juice. It was quite good. different from other chocoate-y ones for sure.

Oreo Crème was the one I was most excited about. It is filled with crème and topped with icing & Oreo crumbles. This one was packed with filling, the crème was velvety yet fluffy as all others. Not so much Oreo flavor, but chocolate-y and creamy.

Last but not least, Boston Crème. It seems to be one of the customer favorite. It is filled with Bavarian crème and topped with chocolate Icing. I felt that it is heavier than others, with it being covered with icing instead of crème. It was very traditional Boston Crème Doughnut, noting fancy but yet high quality and comforting.

The line was long but it moved quickly with efficient staffs. And, the doughnuts were so good, it was worth waiting in line for sure! Loved the fluffy, doughy, airy and light doughnuts with creamy and velvety fillings. I am glad we don’t live nearby their shop…otherwise, our stomach and wallet would not like it. If you like doughnuts and in Philly, head over to Beiler’s for some yummy doughnuts!
