No matter where you are, even during your vacation, sometimes you get cravings for comfort food. Luckily, it is not so hard to find. Here in Lincoln NH, we found a spot where we can get all kinds of comfort food.
Right at the entrance, they have a nice little waiting area, sign of a popular place where a waiting area is needed? We got there kind of early in the evening, but there was a short wait already. While we were waiting, several more people came in looking for a table. No, they do not take reservation, unless you have a party of 20 people or more.
The inside looked cozy with lots of wood, matching setting to the surroundings. There were people already having good time there, and although a few seats were available at the bar, we wanted a table, so we waited.
The inside didn’t look so big, until we were ready to be taken to our table. From the entrance, I couldn’t see how large this restaurant really is. The front section of dining area have some booth and table seating for four people. But then, the dining area in the back had larger space with bigger tables and a couple of communal tables.
They had a bar in the back side of the room across from the communal table. It was full of happy customers having a good time with family and friends.
All the way to the back of the wall, they have a nice, thick wooden table for four to six, and also a little lounge area with sofas. Nice to have so many seating options to be able to accommodate all sorts with people of all party sizes.
And yes, they do have outdoor seating too. It is covered patio, so you are not under a scorching Sun. It is not a large outdoor space, but a good enough size.
For drinks, we ordered Iced Tea ($2.35) and Lemonade ($2.35). They came in a large cup, and lemonade came with free refill on the menu. The surprising thing was that “free refill” was not indicated on the iced tea…from my experiences, iced tea usually come with refills at most places.
First comfort food we ordered was Poutine ($8.25), french fries served Canadian style with mozzarella and beef gravy. It was a pretty good size, as you can see against the large drink cup.
When I quickly read the menu, I somehow thought it comes with Canadian bacon… to my surprise, it didn’t have any bacon or any meat, of course. I was a bit sad about that, but it was my fault for misreading the menu. Other than that, the mozzarella was cheesy, gravy was gooey, fries were soft. It was a good amount, and 100% comfort food. It was not super tasty, but it was ok.
The second comfort food of choice was Buffalo fried Mac n’ Cheese Balls. It is tossed with hot sauce and served with blue cheese dressing. It also came with a couple of carrot sticks and celery. This dish reminded me of Atomic Fire Balls from Queens Comfort (you can read about it here: http://www.foodlovergirl.com/queens-comfort/)
This one was much bigger than the ones from Queens comfort, and much less spicy. It had a nice kick to it without being too spicy. Blue cheese went nicely with it. The macaroni was soft and cheesy, pretty good.
The last comfort food of our choice was Crab Cake ($8.50). It is served with arugula, grilled lemon, and a side of lemon cajun mayo. And it came with lots of their mayo…it took half the plate. Grilled lemon was a nice touch.
Crab Cake was not as big as I wanted it to be, but it was juicy, meaty, and pretty good. Had good amount of crab meat, and right amount of seasoning. It was actually better than I expected it to be.
Since we didn’t order any main dishes, but shared three appetizers between us, we decided to go for a dessert. Unfortunately, they were out of most of their desserts out of small dessert menu.. So, we chose one of very few options that they had available. We went with Ghiradelli Brownie Sundae ($5.50). It was basically a mountain of whipped cream…
They had a small brownie on the bottom, then one scoop of vanilla ice cream, and then covered with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. If you need a sugar rush, this is the item for you. I didn’t really get any particular flavor, it was basically masked by whipped cream… My hubby who loves whipped cream really enjoyed it though. LOL.
The service was ok, it was more…well…relaxed. Our server never came for the free refill of lemonade… It was kind of slow and we were not very well attended. At the end, we went there for comfort food, and comfort food we got. It hit the spot and we were satisfied. Every once in a while, we need to get these gooey, cheesy, not-so-good-for-you food. This place had good amount of burger options which we didn’t get to try this time. If we go back, I would like to try one of their burgers.
