While we were in NJ, we found this very popular restaurant called Blue Cafe. Seems like we are finding places with “cafe” in their names in NJ lately…such as Cafe HESED, and Cafe Lala. Let’s see how Blue Cafe is like, shall we?
The place was packed with a handful of people waiting outside. Luckily for us, the weather was nice, and the several tables were just finishing up. We waited only about 15 minutes or so. The inside was cozy and energetic. I liked the wallpaper that was a bit antique style. They had lots of large windows, bringing in bright sunlight inside. There are some outdoor seatings as well, but since it was a hot summer day, we opted for an indoor seating.
We started off with nice cold drinks, Vanilla Matcha Latte ($5.50). It came in a large glass! It was milky and subtly sweet, just perfect! Refreshing and almost creamy flavor. Really enjoyed it.
For food, I went with one of their popular dishes, Warsaw Skillet ($14). It is made with two sunny side up eggs, local Pulaski kielbasa, sautéed onion, grape tomato, chives, breakfast potato, served with French baguette.
Sausage was amazing, super plump and juicy! One of the eggs was overcooked, but the second egg was runny enough to give us egg porn. Potatoes were great, making this dish extra satisfying. The skillet was a bit smaller in size than expected, but it was filling.
My hubby went with Paris Morning ($17), made with Crispy potato pancake, smoked salmon, crème Fraiche, poached eggs, capers, dill, served with French baguette.
Potato pancake was delicious. Crunchy and potato-y with perfect seasoning. Salmon was sliced thick and fresh, and the eggs were great too, we used the baguette to dip into the runny egg. A nice dish for when you are feeling extra hungry.
We were getting full, but we decided to order one dessert to share. We were curious about their Pączki ($3.75). It is a traditional Polish doughnut. It took a while for it to be brought to our table, which made us wonder what is going on, since we thought they just needed to bring one from the showcase window on their counter.
When it finally arrived, we understood the reason why it took a while. It came piping hot! It was so hot that steam came up when I cut it open. Soft, fluffy like a cloud, big enough to share. It was dusted with powder sugar, and had blueberry filling. Not overly sweet which was amazing. It was so delicious and amazing!
We had such good food here, we went back again in the winter. We got Brown Sugar-Cinnamon Latte ($5.50) from their “Today’s Special” section of the menu. It was very cute, sprinkled with the holiday season spirit! It was sweet and comforting, warm you up from the inside out.
For food, my hubby ordered the Warsaw skillet ($14), since he really enjoyed it the last time he had some. I went with something sweet this time, and ordered Ricotta Lemon Pancakes ($14). It comes with fresh berries and lemon curd.
The pancakes were super fluffy, and came with a huge dollop of lemon curd that had the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity flavor. What really surprised me even more than the tasty lemon curd was that the pancake was filled with ricotta in there! You get the strong flavor of ricotta and lemon with each bite with the fluffy pancake… I mean, it was total perfection!
They have one bathroom, and it is located by the counter in the back, right by the kitchen door. Be careful with the staffs constantly coming in and out of the kitchen. There really isn’t much space for anyone to stand and wait for the bathroom to become available… The bathroom is huge with a typewriter and other antique looking knickknacks. Could they have made a little waiting area for the bathroom instead? Maybe. But hey, at least they have a nice, roomy, clean bathroom!
The staffs here were very friendly, polite, and welcoming. They were very efficient, cleaning up the table quickly as soon as customers leave. Our water was always filled. The food was delicious and high quality. If we are back in the area, we will definitely stop by again to try more of their food!

I saw your photo on Yelp and decided to check out your blog. Blue Cafe is great!! That location has had difficulty keeping a restaurant; most only lasted a few years. I’m glad to see Blue Cafe still popular and busy. We love it! The outdoor tables give me a vibe of finding a great cafe while on vacation. I’m enjoying your blog!! Great job!
Hello Nancy,
Thank you checking out my blog! Yes we love Blue Cafe, we still go there when we are nearby. Actually we are about to go back soon!
We haven’t dined at their outdoor seating, but we would definitely check that out too.
Thank you for your kind words, I greatly appreciate your kindness!!!
