Breakfast Club

A good breakfast spot that opens early is not as easy to find as it should be…but I successfully found a good spot here in Phoenix, Arizona. I first wondered if this is some kind of exclusive restaurant, as it is called “Breakfast Club” but I believe it is for any breakfast lovers. Thank you! It is located at the CityScape, on the upper level. They have both stairs and escalators from the sidewalk.

As soon as I went up, I saw an interesting structure with sign that said Breakfast Club. I thought “hmmm, it is kind of small…and it doesn’t look like it is open???”  But then, I realized it is some kind of outdoor cafe version, right next to their actual restaurant. Thank goodness!

The restaurant is to the left of this structure, with a small seating right in front of it. But then, they had more outdoor seating under the yellow Sunbrellas behind the cafe structure.

I walked into the restaurant and got a seat at the bar, since I was alone. The bar was in bright yellow, fun pop of color to wake you up. There were several TV screens on the top  of the bar for sports fans.

They had a good amount of seating at the bar, also lots of indoor seating as well. It was not as busy as I thought, which was good for me since I got to get a seat right away. The hostess was friendly and nice, welcomed me with a warm smile as soon as I walked in.

For drink, I didn’t want to have any coffee, instead, decided to go with something more healthy. They had all sorts of fresh squeezed juices, such as orange, grapefruits, and pineapple. But then, I saw an interesting item that is called “V-18” which is their version of Veggie Juice. I decided to try that one. The V-18 ($7/large) came out in a deep, bright red, like a typical V-8 drink. The large was really large, the same size as their big water glass. It was very strong and powerful, I tasted mainly tomato, with some veggies. It woke me right up with a good amount of spice. Like a really well made Bloody Mary without any alcohol. It was tasty, high quality and I felt like my body was happy with the healthy nutrients coming into the body. I really enjoyed it but I couldn’t finish it all since it was very filling. I asked for a to-go cup to take the rest of the juice with me.

For food, I chose Biscuits & Gravy ($11) under “Southwest Style” section of the menu. When I put in the order, the server asked me if I wanted the eggs to be scrambled super quickly, and without thinking, I said yes. Then, I was thinking maybe I wanted them to be sunny-side up, but it was too late… Well, that was ok, since they didn’t over-cook the eggs, which is what I was afraid of. The eggs were cooked well, with some creamy-ness left in it. And this thing was HUGE! I didn’t realize how bit it was going to be…

It is made with jalapeno cheddar biscuit topped with 2 eggs, fontina cheese, sausage gravy & house hot sauce, served with potatoes o’brien and fresh fruit. The gravy was nice and creamy, didn’t have much sausage in it from what I could see. The biscuit had a tiny little kick to it from jalapeno, which was nice. It was fluffy, but at the same time, a bit too dry. It crumbled too easily. Side fruits were nice and sweet. It had pineapple, melon, watermelon and honeydew.

The server brought 4 different kinds of hot sauce to go with this dish. Since the biscuit itself didn’t have much heat, I enjoyed it better with the hot sauce. My choice of hot sauce was Tabasco chipotle pepper sauce, pretty tasty. The potatoes were filling and satisfying, but nothing really special.

The entire time I was having my breakfast, no one came to check on me…not that I needed anything, but still… And because of that, it took a while to get the bill, and to pay the bill. It would be nicer if I didn’t feel like I was forgotten at the bar… The food and juice were tasty, I enjoyed and needless to say, I was stuffed! Great value for the amount of food and juice that I received. If you want a huge, solid breakfast, this place might be the one for you.
