We spent several days near Woodstock, VT during the summer. We don’t do much winter sports, but we do love hiking. The area we stayed had loads of hiking trail, which was great. It is so good to get away from the city, and get into the wilderness sometimes. During our mini-vacation, we visited Brownsville Butcher & Pantry for breakfast, and then went back again, and again…
It is a great place to get some fresh produce and any other groceries and essentials. You can get VT milk, eggs, cheese, etc. here also. It is a very popular spot from what we could see. Having a large parking helps, but it can get filled up during the peak hours. They had a few tables and chairs outside, which was convenient when you want to eat your hot food items right there.
It also had a nice sized café in the inside, offering baked goods, sandwiches, and more. They had a line of people waiting to order, which was a good sign. We decided to get a few baked goods, while we wait for the food order to come out. They all looked great, and I wanted them all…but we finally decided on two donuts and a scone. They were all pretty big, so we actually took some home and enjoyed them later. The Chocolate Almond Cranberry Scone ($3.50) was moist, flakey, and had generous amount of chocolate chips. Very filling!
They had two flavors for Crullers and Doughnuts: Vanilla Glace and Cinnamon Sugar. We Cinnamon Sugar Cruller ($3) and Vanilla Glaze Doughnut ($1.50). Interesting how you can get the doughnut for half the price of cruller, but they are about the same size. The Cruller was really nice. It had the perfect crunchy exterior with very moist inside. I really liked how it had just the right amount of sweetness without being too much. The doughnut was very fluffy, doughy in a good way. This one was also not overly sweet but elegantly sweet, which was great.
For the hot food item, if you read enough of my blogs, then you know I ordered some kind of breakfast sandwich. We ordered Egg Sandwich ($4.50) and added Tomato (no extra charge), Sausage ($2), and Spicy Mayo (no extra charge). We added Maple Latte ($5/12 oz) to go with our food. It was nice, smaller size than I expected, but quality cup of coffee. The size ended up perfect, as we got full with all the food.
And just look at the size of the sausage!!! Who know getting any food item with meat from the butcher is this awesome?! The huge sausage was simply delicious! Perfectly cooked, juicy, thick, perfect balance of sweetness and the salty flavor. The buns were soft, eggs were plump, tomato was ripe, and spicy mayo had a great flavor with a nice kick to it. Every bite was heavenly! I could have that every morning!
Since we had an amazing breakfast there, we decided to go back for lunch a few day later. This time, we ordered Philly Cheesesteak ($13), Burger with all sorts of extras ($13), and Pesto Fries ($6.50). The Philly Cheesesteak was pretty big, and had a good amount of caramelized onions and meat, placed with fresh and crisp lettuce. Very filling and satisfying.
Pesto Fries were amazing. To be honest, I wanted to order Pesto Fries AND Cheese Fries, but I was stopped by my hubby, who thought that the portion of one fries might be large based on the price. And guess what, he was right! It is good to listen to my hubby every once in a while… This was totally shareable size, and I am glad we ordered only one of them. The pesto was super flavorful, went great with the fries. It was so very addictive!
I thought getting a burger from a butcher might be amazing, thinking from the breakfast experience. The Standard Burger ($8.50) comes with 6 oz Patty, Lettuce, Tomato, American Cheese, Onion, Pickle, and their Secret Sauce. I added Bacon ($2), Avocado ($1.50), and Caramelized Onion ($1). I made the burger to be much pricier, but it was all worth it. The patty was super juicy and packed with flavor. The bacon was meaty and amazing, and all the veggies were fresh, and cheese was perfectly cheesy… It was certainly a great burger! Our second trip to Brownsville Butcher & Pantry was a complete success, yet again!
The last time we got to visit Brownsville Butcher & Pantry was our last day in Vermont. We went on our way out, so that we could have them in the car as we drove back home to NYC. We ordered Turkey Club ($12.50) and BLT ($8.50). We thought they would be easier to eat in the car.
Turkey Club is made with House Turkey, Bacon, Cheddar, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Mayo, and Deli Mustard on White Brioche Toast. It had a generous amount of turkey, really fresh and high quality. The bread was toasted just right, and perfectly buttery. It had loads of fresh ingredients in there, very filling! Enough to share unless you are super hungry.
Now, the BLT. This was another situation where my hubby’s decision making was awesome. Honestly, I thought, “why would you order a boring BLT?” Well, it is because Brownsville Butcher & Pantry does NOT make boring BLT. They only make super amazing BLT, and my hubby somehow knew it… This was the best BLT I’ve ever had! The bacon was super juicy, thick, and cooked just right. The veggies were fresh and crisp, and delicious buttery toast just brought the amazing BLT to even higher level. So good!
In total, we visited Brownsville Butcher & Pantry three times during our stay in Vermont, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The staff there were all friendly and attentive, the store and café was always clean. Definitely one of our favorite spots for food, and we would love to go back again when we go back to Vermont for another mini vacation!
