During the summer, when things seemed like was getting better around NYC, we did managed to go out and have some fun around the city. One of the place we dined during that time was Coco Bistro, a French restaurant and a bar located in South Street Seaport. They have a corner lot, and they used that to have a pretty sizable outdoor dining space.
They had some flowers hanging from the ceiling in the inside, made me think of white wisteria flowers. They had all the windows and doors open, so it was not air conditioned, but had a little breeze going through the restaurant. They had a bar with some tables in the first room where the main entrance/exit is located, and more seating on the next room through the arched opening.
A staff took us to a table on the next room, much more bright with the large window doors, which were all opened up. The indoor and outdoor were almost connected, which made the space feel much bigger.
We visited Coco Bistro for dinner, but we already had amazing cocktails and appetizers at The Little Shop, so we were not so hungry. So, we skipped drinks and appetizers, and went straight into main course. We ordered Lobster Roll Brioche ($24) and Moules Frites ($22.5). We were both feeling more seafood than meat, so this was great!
Moules Frites is made with steamed mussels in white wine and shallots, served with French fries. It came with a generous amount of mussels and fries! I mean, look at these photos, they were both piled up! Wine broth was pretty good. Wish we had bread to soak it up… Fries were nice, not greasy, not too crispy nor too soft, just right.
Lobster Roll Brioche was interesting, I don’t know if I’ve ever had lobster rolls served in brioche buns before? I did have an awesome Lobster Bomb at Ford’s Lobster, served in a bread bowl before, which was amazing…
Lobster Roll Brioche is made with lobster meat sautéed with butter and garlic, pickled onions, and sauce choron. It came with a good amount of plump lobster chunks, and the sauce was really tasty! A fun way to eat lobster roll. It was served with a side of fries, and I believe they were truffle parmesan? So good! I could have a big bowlful of that…
Their bathroom is located in the first room, by the bar. Just look for a curtain by the large mural with a gold heart with “Coco” on it. It is a bit dark between the curtain and the bathroom door, so be careful… There is one bathroom for women and another one for men.
The inside was clean, a good size, with a small storage cabinet where you can put your purse or other personal item.
Our server was nice and polite, didn’t rush us at all. We had a relaxing dinner here, away from the Sun, with a nice breeze going through. Even though we didn’t order much since were not too hungry, but everything we ordered were really tasty, and we enjoyed every bite. Can’t wait to go back to our normal lives, so we can enjoy dining out again!
