Disney’s Hollywood Studios @ Walt Disney World

Now that we conquered Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot, it was time to go to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! We are most excited about their new addition to the park, the Toy Story Land! We headed over there first and got on the Slinky Dog Dash before breakfast. I felt that most of the rides here are more kids friendly than adult fun, but that was a-ok. Toy Story Land is where you become kids, no matter your age.

After a fun ride, we walked over to Woody’s Lunch Box for quick breakfast – or I thought. Anyways, just look at the stand, it is a HUGE lunch box that has transformed itself into a walk-up window counter! How cute it this???

And they had plenty of outdoor seating, all very colorful like kids’ toys. And while we were there, we saw green Toy Story soldiers marching by a couple of times with a drum, pretty cool!

I saw a photo of Tochos from here, and was excited about trying it. But then, we found out that Tochos belongs to Lunch and Dinner menu… Noooo! Luckily for us, they had something kind of similar, but breakfast style. It was called Breakfast Bowl ($8.49), made with Hearty portion of Potato Barrels smothered in Smoked Brisket Country Gravy, Scrambled Eggs and a sprinkling of Green Onions. It was comforting, filling, and quite tasty! I bit pricey, maybe, but I think it was worth it.

Then, we found out that they are actually most popular and famous for their Tart, which is their version of Pop Tart. Now, as I said, this was supposed to be a “quick” and light breakfast, but I made a mistake of sending my hungry husband, alone, to make the purchase of ONE tart. What did he do? He not only got TWO tarts (well, they did have two flavors…), and on top of that, he got S’more French Toast Sandwich!!! Yes, it had become more of a heavy, real deal breakfast…

We first tried their Raspberry Lunch Box Tart ($3.29), Raspberry Marmalade stuffed Pastry coated in a Strawberry Fondant and Crispy Pearls. With the strawberry fondant, it tasted more strawberry than raspberry. It was nice and soft, with tasty marmalade inside, quite tasty! Nice big size too, a good size for sharing. Crispy pearls on top had fun, crunchy texture. The tart was almost like sweet shortbread cookie, I really liked it!

The second tart was Chocolate-Hazelnut Lunch Box Tart ($3.29), a Chocolate-Hazelnut stuffed Pastry coated in Maple Fondant and Candied Bacon. Yes, you read it right, with candied “bacon.” It didn’t have much chocolate-hazelnut filling, which was a bit disappointing. Bacon bits were small, but still gave a good amount of flavor and texture.

Then, S’more French Toast Sandwich ($7.99), made with Marshmallow and Chocolate Ganache stuffed in Grilled Custard soaked Brioche encrusted with Graham Cracker Crumbs. It was not so “s’mores” as I wanted it to be. But rather, more like warm soft toast with chocolate spread. It should’ve had more marshmallow and more graham cracker crumbs. Or do something a bit more creative to make this into more of a s’mores sandwich… And the price tag was too high for this item in my opinion. We were so full after that, we didn’t have any room to have any more food or snacks until lunch time…

At lunch, we headed over to a fun drive-in theater themed restaurant called Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant.

It is an indoor restaurant, where it is always night time so that we can see the screen. The interior was pretty cool, with some landscape under the night sky, full of shiny starts. On the ground are the old-fashion, 50’s style cars. You get to sit in one of these cars and enjoy the food while watching some movie clips. Super cool, right???

The movie clips are all in black in white, from the 50’s, and to match the name of the restaurant, all sci-fi. It was fun to watch them. The only thing is that they show movie “clips” which are more like movie trailers. I wish if they played a whole movie… They did show a cute color animated short though, which was fun. And I learned that in 50’s, it was all about “giant” something or an alien invasion. LOL.

We decided to share a shake and a burger. For the shake, we chose Sci-Fi Specialty Shake ($7), which was Chocolate Mocha. Our server brought two shakes, a bit more than half-way filled. She told us that since we were going to share, she went ahead and split them into two for us. How nice! It was very tasty, with good mocha flavor and not overwhelmingly chocolate-y, which was nice.

For the burger, we chose Drive-in BBQ Burger ($21). It is made with their Signature Blend of Beef, BBQ Spice, Brioche Bun, House-made BBQ Sauce, Bacon, and Cheddar served with Crispy-fried Jalapeño and Onion Straws.

The burger was not bad, but not amazing. It had a nice sweetness from bbq sauce, followed by a little kick from jalapeño, which was quite good! And I enjoyed the crunchy onion straws. Overall, it was tasty, but didn’t blow my mind. The fries were just fries, nothing special.

Now, we were doing good with sharing one shake and one burger, but then, my hubby was more hungry (and weak) than I thought… He also ordered Fried Dill Pickles ($9), served with Horseradish Dipping Sauce. It was nothing like the fried pickles from Pickle Jar Kitchen, the quality was…well, not great. It was way too salty, and not too crisp either. I say it was very unnecessary… We were over-stuffed, so we didn’t have any room for any snacks from elsewhere the rest of the day, until night time… Soooo many missed opportunities from other eateries… I know, we were not doing a good job of the food challenge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios…

But, what we did successfully was to get a photo in their 50s-style car right outside the restaurant! It took us a few tries, but I think we got a good one!

We also got to see some Storm Troopers performance too, which was really cool. Can’t wait until they open the Star Wars parts of the park!

Speaking of Star Wars, we wanted to get a Star Wars themed cupcake, like Darth Vader Cupcake or BB-8 Cupcake. But, we didn’t get to the shop before they closed the door for the day… NOOOOOO!!! So, instead, we walked over to ABC Commissary to get Frozen themed cupcake. We got Olaf Cupcake ($5.99).

Olaf Cupcake is a Chocolate Marshmallow Cupcake with Vanilla Buttercream and a White Chocolate Olaf Topper. The chocolate cupcake was nice, but I don’t know where the “marshmallow” part was…? The buttercream was waaaaay too much. It had as much cream as the cupcake! Needless to say, overly sweet. They had some sugar crystals on top of the cream to create the nice “snow” look to it which was cute, but then again, adding even more sugar to the mix… And it was a bit pricy too. Oh well, it is a special cupcake in Walt Disney World!

One non-food related note. We went to see Fantasmic! performance in the evening, which is held outdoor around the lagoon. The show gets handful of exciting blast of acts, which involves the water shooting up into the night sky and splashing back into the lagoon almost violently. So, if you want to see the show up and close, you might want to be prepared to get wet, a lot. If not, don’t sit in the front row, actually, the first five rows. Thanks to my hubby who did the research, we sat at the perfect distance from the lagoon, so we didn’t really get wet, but we still had a nice view. Thank you my love!

Then we concluded our evening with the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. And I say, it was pretty awesome! The show was grand, over the top, and highly entertaining. They used the Chinese Theater as a projector, and projected amazing scenes and characters from the movie. And yes, loads of fireworks too. What an incredible ending!

We had so much fun here, we got on all the rides we wanted to ride, went to see everything we wanted to see. The food however, we didn’t consume as much as we could’ve… This will be a lesson for us, and we will do a better job when we come back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios!!! We will be back after the Star Wars part of the park opens…in a five years or so, and looking forward to tasting all sorts of great food and snacks again!
