While traveling in Japan, we explored the grand Tokyo Station. The size of the station itself is massive, and the design is impressive as well. It contains hotels, dining, shops, and of course, many train and other transportation lines. The lower level is where most of all the fun and tasty action is at! Each section is named with a theme, like “Tokyo Okashi (snack) Land” or “Tokyo Ramen Street” and so on. We decided to get a breakfast one morning here, and we found the offering at Fari-beurre to be enticing…
According to them, “Fari-beurre” comes from French word for “Flour” and “Butter” so you can imagine most of their offerings will something made with flour and butter. Sounds good to me! They had the menu at the entrance with the samples of the dishes made with wax. I tell you, the skills of those wax artists are just amazing! They do look quite real…
It was an early Tuesday morning, and it was nice and quiet. We were the first customers of the day. The seating area was not so large, but this is inside the train station after all. It was nice and clean, organized and welcoming.
They had the great Japanese omotenashi here, with a small basket that fits perfectly under each chair. You can put your belongings such as bags and jacket in here, so that you don’t have to put them on the floor.
The items we ordered came with a choice of a drink, and I went with hot tea. It came in a fancy glass tea cup, with sugar and tiny little milk.
My hubby went with hot coffee, and it came in a really cute cup. I am not sure if they offer free-refill, as we didn’t need any refill on the drinks.
For the food, we both chose from their pancake menu. The staff told us that it will take about 15 minutes to make the pancakes. The pancakes are made to order, with care and precision. It is good to receive such warning to prepare for the wait. I picked Tiramisu & Espresso Pancake (1,300 yen including a drink/about $13 USD).
It came with a tiny little container full of espresso. I poured on top, but the thick cocoa powder acted as a barrier, so it only got soaked into the pancakes, not the cream on the top.
Even though it had only one pancake, but it looked as if it had stacks of them, as the pancake was huge! It was super fluffy, light as cloud. It was elegantly sweet, and pouring the espresso was fun. The flavor did not scream tiramisu, but it was still quite tasty.
My hubby went with Mixed Fruits Pancake (1,450 yen including a drink). This dished looked so much better than the photo or the wax version of it! How many times does that happen??? It is really rare…and awesome!
It looked fantastic, and fruits looked beautiful! Fruits were ripe and sweet, topped with super thick cream, which was still somehow very light. Decadent and soooo good!
The service was very polite, we had a really nice breakfast here. Very tasty, fluffy pancakes have captured our hungry heart and soul… The tables were a bit small, which reminded me of NYC. LOL. They had other tasty looking dishes, such as thick cut toast dishes, all sorts of quiche, and some dessert tarts as well. I would like to try other dishes the next time we go to Japan!
