Fishermen’s View

During the holiday season, we visited Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich, MA to see the holiday lights displays called the Gardens Aglow. After a fun trip to the garden, museum, and of course the antique carousel, we were ready for some good food. We headed over to Fishermen’s View Seafood Market & Restaurants for dinner. The host/hostess station is up the stairs from the entrance. The boat hanging from the ceiling was packed with wrapped gifts!

It was busy with dinner crowd, energetic and lively. They had a pretty Christmas tree and other decoration to celebrate the holiday season. The inside was large, but kind of interesting setup… The space was separated into few sections, making each dining area seem smaller.

All the way in the back was the biggest space, I think. We were taken to the side of the room through a door. It felt like we were out on a balcony, but it was completely enclosed Kind of a strange space… Since it was a closed off, it got a bit loud as the noise had no place to escape to.

We ordered some cocktails; Cape Cod Mai Tai ($13) and Anejo Sour ($13). Cape Cod Mai Tai is made with Rum, Pussers’ Original, almond, coconut, rose water, lime, and Cointreau. It was not as sweet as I expected it to be, which was nice, as many other places make this drink a bit too sweet. This one was elegantly sweet, and very flavorful.

Anejo Sour ($13) is made with Anejo tequila, California Fernet, salted caramel maple syrup, lemon, and egg white. It had a sort of herb-y flavor to it. The quality was high, but flavor of salted caramel did not come through, which was disappointing. Also, the egg white on top was not as creamy nor as thick as I like…

When our complimentary bread was brought to our table, our server told us some information about it. A bucket of Cornbread with Maple Chipotle Butter, made from the chef’s grandmother’s recipe. It was simply amazing! It had actual corns in there that gave nice texture that pops in the mouth. Moist and packed with flavor. One of the best cornbread I’ve had! The butter was excellent too, went great with the cornbread. Give me a huge bucket full please!

We were feeling festive (and maybe quite hungry…), we ordered more than normal amount of appetizers to share. We had crab cakes, a sushi roll, and pierogies. Since I couldn’t get crab cakes at Josh’s at Davisville the night before, I really wanted them! Jonah Crab Cakes ($14) comes with tartar, grilled corn, pickled red onion, and horseradish. It was moist and soft, packed with smooth crab meat. Really tasty!

The roll of our choice was Samurai Roll ($16), made with shrimp tempura, tuna, spicy mayo, jalapeno, Sriracha, and eel sauce. It was nice and spicy! Definitely had strong kick to it. Fresh and tasty, I liked the crunchy texture.

The last appetizers we had was Lobster Pierogies ($15). It is made with rainbow chard, heirloom squash, brown butter, and pepitas. It had very creamy filling, similar to creamy mashed potatoes. The dough was soft and had a nice thickness. It had many different flavors and textures, I felt they were fighting against the main ingredient, lobster. I didn’t get much lobster flavor.

For the main, one of us went with Maple-Citrus Grazed Scottish Salmon ($25), and another one of us went with Fried Whole Bellied Clam Roll ($16), served with French fries, cole slaw, tartar sauce, and lemon. They both seemed to enjoy their dishes.

My hubby ordered a dish off the special menu of the day, Seafood Stew ($22). We heard they only make a limited number of this dish, so he put in the order immediately. And guess what? He got the last one of the day! How lucky! It is made with Cod, Littlenecks, Leek, Potato, Dill, and Fennel Cream, served with Garlic Toast. It was very flavorful and comforting. Potatoes made it especially comfy and homey. A bit on salty side, I would’ve liked it better with a little less salt. With a good amount of ingredients, it was a “meaty” stew.

What did I get? I was feeling extra, extra festive after seeing the holiday lights, and maybe extra, extra hungry… I went with Lobster Fra Diavolo ($38). It comes with 1 1/4 pound Grilled Local Lobster with Shrimp, Mussels, and Littleneck Clams in a Fiery Red Sauce with Fresh Linguini & Grilled Garlic Bread. I didn’t realize what I have ordered, really, until they brought me a bucket with special tools, wet naps, and a bib!

Lobster Fra Diavolo was HUGE!!! When it came to our table, I seriously froze for a moment… I say this is totally the “Fishermen’s View” right here! Pasta on the bottom were kind of stuck to each other. Maybe they got squashed together from the weight of lobster and other treasures of the sea. It certainly had a generous amount of shellfish and lobster. Shrimp and lobster were nice and plump. Needless to say, it was super filling, super satisfying, I could not finish this dish on my own. And even with help, I had to leave some pasta.

We had a nice dinner here at Fishermen’s View, it sure was one epic feast! Our server, Jenna, was lovely, attentive, and took a really nice care of us. We enjoyed our food and drinks, and had a fun time stuffing our mouth and stomach with seafood. What a great way to enjoy the holiday season with your family!
