I discovered this lovely café called Flour Bakery + Café back in 2018. I knew I would return during my next visit to Boston. They have a few locations, but we went back to the same spot on Dalton Street. The selection of their baked goods still looked as amazing and mouthwatering as before.
During our first morning visit, we got some savory and sweet items. The first one was Nutmeg Spice Cupcake ($3.50) with brown sugar frosting. Doesn’t it just sounds amazing? The cupcake was fluffy and airy, moist and delightful. The spice coming through beautifully, with creamy frosting that goes perfectly with the cupcake. So good!
Next one was Apple Cinnamon Cream Brioche ($3.50). It was elegantly sweet, with thinly sliced apples, and velvety cream. Definitely a great item! Nice size too, enough to share with your loved one. The cinnamon on top added warm flavor that bring everything together.
For savory, we had to get their famous Breakfast Egg Sandwich ($8). We fell in love at first bite with this sandwich, we couldn’t resist! And it was still as amazing as before! Everything was just perfect with these sandwiches!
On the second visit, I got something sweet for breakfast, and something more solid for breakfast and lunch. For the sweet item, I went with Dolce de Leche Brioche ($3.50). Brioche was super fluffy, so light and airy! Topped with sugar crystals, adding nice sweetness to it. Caramel cream filling was very tasty! I originally thought it was just placed atop the brioche, but then I found out it goes into the middle of the brioche as well. Really nice, strong caramel flavor without being too heavy. It was great!
For savory, I decided to go with something different this time. I chose Roasted Sweet Potato Sandwich ($10). It is a vegetarian sandwich, made with local sweet potatoes, great hill blue cheese, walnut pesto, granny smiths, and mustard greens. It was a cold sandwich, which makes sense if I think about it, but it still surprised me a bit.
Apple slices were lovely! Fresh veggie with acidic dressing that balanced well against sweet potato, which was roasted perfectly. Bread was toasted just right, fluffy with some crunchy spots. Walnut pesto and blue cheese went great with potato and apple. Never thought about sweet potatoes with apples, but it certainly works! Walnut pesto with loads of small chunks of walnut, tasty! It was super filling that I only finished half of it, and saved the other half later.
The staffs here were very nice, friendly and polite. They took my order with a warm, welcoming smile. The food here is always so fresh, high quality, and haven’t had a single item that I was not happy with. Great café, I will certainly be back again during my next visit to Boston!
