We were looking for a place to grab some dinner one evening, and we found this spot. We were actually planning to eat elsewhere, but they had crazy long wait, and this place was less busy, so… We still had to wait but only about 10-15 minutes of wait.
The inside is not so big, or I would say, it is a good size, but the half of the space is taken up by the bar that sits in the middle. They have a some seating at the bar, but most of the chairs were occupied by the people who were waiting for their table, instead of actually dining at the bar counter.
After a short wait, we got our table on the right side of the bar. They had about handful of tables on the right side, most of them were small tables for two. The set up was a regular Manhattan restaurant set up, tables on top of each other. So, you don’t really get much space around you (or on your table).
We put in our order and waited for the food to come out. When the food came out, the complimentary bread came out at the same time. We were struggling to put everyone on the small table, but we somehow managed. The bread was nice and fluffy, and I liked how it came out with a side of oil and balsamic mix.
We ordered one appetizer or what they call “snacks” and one pizza. Again, everything including the bread came out at the same time, so we didn’t get to have the food in order of bread – appetizer – pizza like we thought we would… Anyways, for appetizer, we ordered Eggplant Parmigiana ($14), wood burning with pomodoro and basil. It came out piping hot, still bubbling, which was awesome. It was tasty and comforting. It was a bit small, since it was a “snack” but the price point is almost the same price as some of the pizza dishes.
The pizza of our choice was Parma ($16) and is made with prosciutto, arugula, parmigiano, fontina, and truffle oil. It had a nice sturdy crust that is not too thin. I like the natural salty flavor from prosciutto on fresh arugula, topped cheese shavings. Not much aroma or the flavor of truffle oil. I could still taste it a little bit, but not as much as I wanted. Also, the amount of prosciutto was a bit less than expected… Overall, it was pretty tasty pizza, but I must say, I liked the Prosciutto Burrata Pizza from Uptown Garrison (you can read about it here: http://www.foodlovergirl.com/the-uptown-garrison-2/).
After the meal, we decided to get a cup of tea and some desserts. The Tea ($3.75) came out in tea bag, Numi organic tea. I liked how they brought a small pot of hot water so that you can get a little more than a cup without asking for a refill of hot water in your cup.
For dessert, we ordered Tiramisu and Tartufo. The Tiramisu ($9) is made with Ladyfingers, mascarpone and espresso. It was dressed up with a strawberry on top. It was very fluffy and light, with nice coffee flavor. Not the best tiramisu I’ve ever had, but it was a good, tasty one.
Tartufo ($9) was a good size. It is made with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with cherry hazelnut in the middle. I always liked Tartufo, so I was happy that they had this on their desert menu. This one also came with a strawberry on top. It was big enough to share among a few people. It was the traditional kind that I really like, with chocolate coating on the outside with cherry center. Tasty and refreshing!
Their bathroom was located to the right side of the bar, all the way in the back. The uni-sex bathroom was clean and roomy, simple and had some green plants to provide a bit of relaxed atmosphere.
The service was friendly and nice, we had a good dinner here. I wish if we receive the food in order, with a little break in the middle so that we could consume them little at the time, without worrying about them getting cold. The food was good and tasty, it could get a little loud in there since there is no separation or wall, with so many tables right next to each other.
