Hole In The Wall

We walked by Hole In The Wall a few times, and they always had crowds of people waiting for tables. They must have good food, right? We decided to try and see what the buzz is all about at their Flatiron location for brunch.

They had a nice size outdoor seating, but it was a warm autumn day (I know, I am still catching up!), so we wanted an indoor seat. The inside was cozy with wooden furniture and wooden walls. I really liked them having greeneries, makes it feel homey. The furnishings and light fixtures were in the green hue, making the area to be earthy with green, brown, and soft white.

It was full when we arrived, but about the time we finished our brunch, it was calming down. The interesting thing was that they had another big room in the back, which was not in use that day. With the amount of people waiting for tables, I would think they want to utilize every table. But then again, if they don’t have enough servers to take care of all the tables, then it would be better not to open that area.

You might already know, but I love breakfast sandwiches… I’ve had some delicious ones around the world! The ones I tried in NYC in the last year were from Cheeky Sandwiches, Butterfunk Biscuit, and Butler, all excellent! And here at the Hole In The Wall, they have a dish called Brekkie Roll, their version of the breakfast sandwich. Naturally, I went straight to it… So, I ordered Brekkie Roll ($16), made with Double Smoked Bacon, Hash Brown, Fried Egg, Murray’s White Cheddar Cheese, Aioli, and served with Sweet Potato Fries.

However, they were already out of sweet potato fries, so I got mine with Hash Browns. I actually love hash browns, more so than the sweet potato fries, so it worked out perfectly! And their hash brown was great, crispy exterior and soft and potato-y inside, without being oily at all. I loved it!

The Brekkie also had hash brown in it, so it was double the fun. The bacon was perfectly cooked, cheese was melty, and egg was cooked just right. The sandwich itself was rather small, but it was still satisfying. The rolls were fluffy and buttery, I really enjoyed it.

My husband went with Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich ($18), made with Bibb Lettuce, Sliced Tomato, Murray’s White Cheese, Pickles, Aioli, and served with Fries.

The sandwich was bigger than the Brekkie, and it came with a mountain of fries! The fries were all bit short, making us think we got the last of the fries left on that batch…we didn’t care, for as long as it tasted good, and it sure did. The chicken was crispy and juicy, and that melty cheese brings it up to the next level. It was scrumptious!

To get to their bathroom can be a challenge… You have to go down some flights of stairs, located between the bar near the entrance and the main dining area. Go down to the basement through a narrow staircase, be careful of people coming up the stairs. There is a bathroom for men and women at the end of the hallway. Not accessible, and not easy for little kids to be going down and up here…

We already planned to have our dessert at Harry Potter New York, so we didn’t get anything else from the Hole In The Wall this time. I would like to go back again and try something else in the near future!
