We first visited Josh’s at Davisville about a year ago. It was still rather new back then, and we had a wonderful dinner. We went back to see how they are doing after a year. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile. We were taken to our seat immediately, as we had a reservation. The atmosphere was still cozy, inviting, and relaxing. But, there was one upgrades that we noticed to right away. The lighting in here is not so strong, more of a soft light. For many of their patrons, they require more light to look at their menu. They took this into consideration, and had a touch lamp! They bring this baby out while customers are looking at the menu, and take it away once you have put in your order. Brilliant! Their complimentary breads are still as wonderful as it used be, we really enjoyed them.
We had a couple of cocktails this evening. First one was Banana Nut Roll Martini ($12). It was strong, banana-y, and sweet but not overly sweet. It had great flavor for banana lovers, tasty! I also enjoyed the caramel and cinnamon on the rim, which went very well with the cocktail. The second one was Hot Mulled Apple Cider ($8) with Amaretto and whipped cream. It came out nice and hot, comfy flavor of apple cider, but can definitely get you tipsy! Great drink on a chilly day.
We ordered a couple of appetizers to share. I wanted to order crap cake, but our luck will have it, they were out of it… Instead, we went with Macadamia Encrusted Scallops ($15). The portion was a bit small. Since there were four of us, we got to have one scallop each. They were pan-seared nicely, soft and plump, quite tasty!
The second appetizer dish we ordered was Shrimp Risotto ($14), made with garlic marinated shrimp and roasted bell pepper risotto. They were cheesy which was nice, but felt the risotto was a bit under cooked. Shrimp was plump and juicy, it had great seasoning.
For main, one of us went for the Filet of Sole Français ($23) again, and another one of us went with Chicken Piccata ($19) with capers, lemon, wine, and butter. The chicken and pasta were cooked well, but it had way too many capers. The flavor of capers is quite strong, and with so many of them on the plate, it overpowered everything else.
My hubby went with Shrimp and Scallop Scampi ($30), with garlic, tomato, and lemon. Pasta was cooked just right. It came with a generous amount of plump shrimps and scallops. The lemon added sharp acidic flavor that complimented sweet flavors.
I went with Seafood Casserole ($29) with shrimp, cod, swordfish and salmon. It was not big, rather small, but packed and satisfying. Large pieces of fish and shrimps in there, making this dish nice and filling. Swordfish was a bit overcooked, which was disappointing, but the rest of the ingredients were cooked just right. It had the perfect seasoning, I enjoyed it.
The service was friendly, but quite slow. Not a place to go if you are in a hurry. But if you want to have a slow-paced, relaxing dinner with your loved ones, then Josh’s at Davisville will be the perfect spotJosh’s at Davisville. We had a really nice dinner here, once again. I am sure we will return for more of their tasty dishes in the future!
