After a day full of delicious eats with my gourmet sister, I casually mentioned to her that we haven’t decided where to go for breakfast the next morning. She sent me her recommendation, and of course we trusted her 100%. So, when we got up, we went looking for this spot called Junkissa PanEsu. We actually walked by the street a few times, but we never noticed their signage before. It was a bit hidden, away from the street, which we really liked. They had a small indoor dining area, and two outdoor eating space that looked like adorable cabins!
It was a cold morning in January, so we got a table inside the indoor dining area. It is a small room, with a handful of tables, The tables had lots of stamps from all over the world, which was fun.
The outdoor seating were adorable though. I almost wish if we could brave the cold and sit out there. The adorable cabins were open on two ends, with several opening for entrance/exits, and open windows.
They were however equipped with the cold temperature. They had heaters with instructions on how to turn it on/off. Also, lots of warm blankets to keep you extra warm. The kind consideration of this place, and trust they have in their customers… One of many reasons why I love Japan!
Inside the indoor dining area, they had a jug of water, glasses, and condiments for coffee. I appreciate the consideration and efficiency. They had some sandwiches on the showcase window below the ordering counter.
Junkissa PanEsu is a cafe that does not offer any alcoholic beverage, and “PanEsu” is a combined word they created with Pan=bread and Esu=espresso. As you can imagine, they focus on bread and yes, espresso. We were there for breakfast, and their breakfast menu looked really interesting. We ordered Bean Paste Butter Toast Set (800 yen) and Cheese Toast Set (800 yen).
I couldn’t believe how much stuff came at such low price! It had a side of fresh salad, boiled egg, and a choice of drink. Coffee, Tea, Orange Juice and Apple Juice comes with this morning set at no additional cost, but I really wanted Cappuccino, so I ordered that for additional 100 yen. The bread was sliced thick, and I mean it was like a huge block! It was toasted nicely, and soft and fluffy like a cloud, and it was delicious! The sweet bean past and butter went perfectly together, it was delightful!
Salad was super fresh, with vibrant color and that crunch from the veggies. Cappuccino looked great, and it tasted even better than it looked. The perfect foam and the simple yet beautiful latte art. The coffee was a pretty good cup. Deep, strong, and aromatic, sure to awake your senses in the morning.
Egg was cooked to perfection in my opinion. Not overcooked, not underdone. I like it how it was not completely cooked in the middle, but slightly runny. Just a little dash of salt and it is the perfect little sidekick to this morning set.
Cheese Toast was great too. A nice amount of melty cheese with a sprinkles of ground black pepper. Who knew cheese and black pepper go so amazingly together? It was so tasty, I had to tell my family to try that when we got back home. My hubby also changed the drink from a regular coffee to Cappuccino, and he was super happy with that choice.
We had an amazing breakfast here at Junkissa PanEsu. My gourmet sister’s recommendation was spot on! Their lunch menu and the dessert menu looked really enticing as well. I would love to go back there again during lunch hours the next time I am in Japan! If you are looking for a hidden gem with delicious morning set in Tokyo, give this place a try!
