Just Salad

Since the City is trying to go back to somewhat “normal” life, I know many of us are thinking of losing the horrid pandemic weight… No more “lounge wear” and back to fabulous clothes, or REAL work clothes. And they might be a bit tight for some reason…they must have shrunk during the pandemic! Healthy eating can be boring and expensive, but if you know where to go, it doesn’t have to be! I recently visited A Crepe in Flushing, where they offer salad in a crepe! Fun, tasty, and affordable. And like A crepe, Just Salad offers tasty, healthy, and affordable food, at many of their locations. We went to one of there locations at 39th and Broadway, about 3 weeks after they opened. They don’t have loads of seating, but with the super high ceiling, it made the space look and feel huge! I like the clean décor, with vibrant colors and simple message. Nothing you don’t need is on the wall. The space was very clean! Manager was cleaning often while we were there.

I am so happy I discovered Just Salad, for what they offer, and what they are all about. They of course focus on health, with real ingredients, served in many ways. They are also trying their best to make their offerings affordable. If you have been to other major salad-based chains, you can see the difference in the price when you get here. And last but not least, they are all about reducing waste! You can get your own reusable bowl for a $1, which comes with one free topping each time! What a great option to have??? Their trash area is serious too, please sort and separate the trash when you are done and leaving. Let’s be kinder to our planet.

Once you decided to buy the reusable bowl, or maybe just want to try their food before you do that (which is what we did), you can go all the way back to the start of ordering line. They have many awesome looking salad bowls. But, contrary to their name “Just Salad” they are so much more than just salad! They also offer warm bowls over rice, wraps, avocado toasts, soups, and smoothies!

As soon as we approached the counter, a manager came over and asked if this was our first visit. When we said yes, he kindly explained how they work, and how to order. I thought that was so nice, we felt very welcomed! then, the ladies at the counter took our orders and started preparing our bowls.

Everything looked really fresh, and she constructed our bowls with ease and efficiency. One of our order was the warm bowl over rice, which she built from bottom up. The second order was a salad bowl, which she put everything in a large mixing bowl and tossed really well before putting them into the serving bowl.

So, here is our bowls! Crispy Chicken Poblano Salad Salad (10.99) and Warm Chicken Thigh + Goat Cheese Bowl ($10.99). The salad bowl is bigger in size, but they are both very filling. The warm bowl has more weight to it.

Crispy Chicken Poblano Salad (10.99) is made with Romaine, Kale, Breaded Chicken, Cotija Cheese, Avocado, Corn, and Pickled red Onions. The recommended dressing for this was Spicy Poblano Ranch, and the staff asked me if I wanted mild, medium, or spicy dressing. I went with the Medium spicy dressing.

I must say, I was surprised and happy with the portion. As I mentioned earlier, their salad menu tends to be more affordable than some other salad-based chains out there. AND, you get more portion? That is just great! Since the salad is tossed in a mixing bowl, the heavy ingredients, such as Breaded Chicken was more on the bottom of the bowl, but you can easily find them just sleeping underneath the vibrant green blankets.

With the medium spicy dressing, it had a nice kick to it. All the ingredients were super fresh, and the chicken was really good too! Generous amount of ingredients, and I liked the crunchy texture and tasty flavor from the chips too. It had a good amount of chicken, and creamy avocado was amazing. Everything was just right with with salad bowl!

Warm Chicken Thigh + Goat Cheese Bowl ($10.99) is made with Marinated Chicken Thigh, Arugula, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Balsamic Mushrooms, Goat Cheese, Half Fresh Lemon, and Drizzle of Balsamic Vinaigrette.

As I mentioned the “warm bowls” are a bit smaller, I should say the shape of the bowl is more shallow than the salad bowl. But, as you can see, it is packed with all the ingredients that can fill you up! It had a nice weight to it when you hold it, so you know you are getting loads of stuff in there.

Chicken was tender, and mushroom had great flavor. Sweet potato was nice and soft, I think I loved the sweet potato the best in the bowl. It was so good! Goat cheese went great with the rest, and don’t forget to squeeze the fresh lemon a bit. It certainly adds extra fresh flavor, and the acidity balance the sweetness of the bowl.

If there is an ingredients don’t like or allergic to in the bowl you want to try, you can ask the staff to omit/swap the ingredients. Also, you can choose the dressing that goes on it too. If you just want to create everything from scratch, you can “build you own” bowl also. The option is limitless! We really enjoyed their salad and the warm bowl, we were happy and satisfied, and it feels good to eat something that is healthy and tasty! I would love to go back and try more of their amazing bowls! Looking for delicious food that is good for you? Head over to one of their many locations, and try their bowl!
