Kitchenette Uptown #2

This is my second review of Kitchenette, you can read about my first post here: http://www.foodlovergirl.com/kitchenette-uptown/

Kitchenette is still a popular spot in this area, it is cute, good breakfast/brunch menu, and there are not many other brunch options around here. I always liked the way they look from the outside, with bright blue awning with pink polka dots.

The inside is as cute as the outside, with polka dots tables and large metal flowers on the wall. We arrived early, before the brunch rush hour, so it was not very crowded. But, it soon became full within one hour.

Started off with Fair Trade Organic Coffee ($3.25), with a side of milk. The coffee comes with free-refill, which is always a plus. The coffee is nice, and the mug with their cute logo on it somehow makes it better.

We were all pretty hungry for hot breakfast, so we all ordered main brunch dishes. The firs one was Kitchenette Breakfast Sandwich ($13), which comes with two eggs, bacon and cheese on a biscuit. We got the eggs scrambled. It also came with strawberry butter which is pretty good. The dish was nice size, and filling. The biscuit was fluffy and soft, and the grits were pretty good too. A good, homey brunch dish.

Next one up was Sweet Potato Waffle ($14.50), with toasted pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries dolloped with cranberry butter. This was a big waffle, fluffy and flavorful. Cranberries went really great with the sweet potato flavor. Pumpkin seeds added extra texture, and of course, their strawberry butter brought everything together with a little sweetness.

The last one was Blackberry Cherry Pancakes ($15). Good sized pancakes, stacked on top of each other, three pancakes in total. This was the most expensive item of the three, and quite filling with three fluffy pancakes. The berries were mostly in the center of the pancakes, and had good flavor.

We were quite full after the meal, which was sad, knowing they have yummy looking sweets like cookies and cupcakes. I always think of coming here just to get these sweet goodies.

Now, as for the service… It was always kind of just “a-ok” but on this day, it went much lower level than that. Our waitress, an older lady, was really pushy and we felt rushed from the beginning to the end. There was one group of diners next to us, and when they left, the staff started to break apart the tables that were put together to accommodate the group. The way our waitress moved our the table and chairs were just horrible. She was scraping them on the ground, making super loud, screeching sound, right next to us!!! We felt as if she was doing it on purpose so that we will leave, and let her have more customers… Anyways, that really gave us a bad taste in our mouth and our brunch experience to sour. It is a cute spot, but I don’t think it would be our choice, for as long as the quality of service does not improve.
