Maison Kayser

A fun thing about any kind of holiday, big or small, is that they get their own special treats. During March, we went to get some fun green treat for St. Patrick’s Day. We found an enticing and tasty sign in front of Maison Kayser one evening, we decided to try it out.

The inside was spacious and simple with pops of color here and there. Even thought it was dark out, they had nice lighting to welcome the customers. They had baked goods and desserts by the ordering counter. They also had cold items, both beverages and food such as sandwiches across from the counter.

They still had good amount of desserts left in the refrigerated showcase, even though it was nearly their closing time. Not good for them, but it was good for us, as it gave us more options. They had beautiful desserts such as cakes, tarts and eclairs.

They had some Spring themed desserts in there, like chocolate birds and bunnies. They also had a good amount of baked goods, such as croissant, brioche, and viennoise. They looked really good, but since we just wanted desserts, we didn’t get any baked goods.

They had some round tables near the front entrance, and then more seating in the back. This place was bigger than I thought. There were only a couple of people here when we walked in, as it was about 20 minutes or so before they closed for the day. And the staffs attitude really showed… They were not happy to see the customers coming in, not welcoming feeling at all. We felt like we were “bothering” them by ordering their sweets.

We decided to order two desserts. The staffs unhappily took our order, and put them in a bag, even though we were gong to have them right there. We asked for plates and they said “we don’t have plates” …really? Anyways, the first one was Mocaccino ($6.50). It was very pretty and elegant. It had a nice slight coffee flavor with the chocolate, kind of mousse-texture in the inside. it had a thin sponge cake on the bottom, and the whole thing was wrapped with chocolate coating. It had a crunchy and crispy square on the top, which added nice texture and flavor.

Then the item we came to get, St. Patrick’s themed dessert, Apricot & Pistachio Eclair ($5.15). It was cute with light green cream and darker green chocolate in a shape of clovers. It was a nice size, made it easier to share.

In the inside, they had a small amount of apricot jam on the bottom, with lots of pistachio cream. It was tasty, I didn’t realize how apricot and pistachio really go well together. The flavor of pistachio was not very strong, but it still was a good little dessert.

The desserts were good, but the attitude of staffs made the sweet experience a bit bitter… If we go back, we will not go back when it is near their closing time for sure. Maybe I will try another location, earlier in a day.
