Melt Shop

One of my favorite comfort food is grilled cheese. I love the classic kind with just the cheese, and I love all the creative or fancy kinds too. Luckily for me, there is a shop that offer all sorts of “melts” dishes, like Chicken Melts, Burger Melts, and of course, Grilled Cheese! They have many locations, and we visited one near Union Square. It is a small shop, with limited counter seating. It is mainly grab-and-go kind of place, so it makes sense. Since we wanted to eat them hot and fresh, we got counter seats by the window.

They offer more than just the melts, but also yummy shakes! We got Nutella Shake ($5.49) and Oreo Shake ($5.49). We also got their Strawberry Lemonade ($3.29) as well. The shakes were so velvety and smooth, creamy and tasty! Each one had a great flavor, we so enjoyed it!

We each got a melt from their limited time offerings menu, and a side dish to go with it.

For the sides, we ordered 2-piece Buffalo Parmesan Chicken Tenders ($5.49). It is made with hand-breaded, sea salt-brined, all white chicken breast. It is doused with Buffalo Sauce and topped with Herbed Parmesan. The chicken pieces were a nice size, bigger than I expected. Tender and juicy, spicy and tangy. Not so much parmesan flavor since the spicy flavor of the buffalo sauce overpowered it. The other side of choice was Shop Tots ($3.49), made with Herbed Parmesan on Tater Tots. They were lightly fried, with crunchy exterior and soft, potato-y inside. Perfect side kick to any comfort food…

For the melts, we got Smoked Brisket + Chimichurri Melt ($9.49). It is made with Pepper Jack, Pickled Red Onions, Mixed Greens & Garlic Mayo. It was quite juicy with tender meat and Chimichurri sauce. Packed with flavor! It was meaty with loads of ingredients, very satisfying. I felt like it could’ve used a bit more cheese, only because I like them really cheesy…

We also got Chicken Bacon Ranch Melt ($9.49), made with Cheddar and Pickles. It had a nice piece of chicken in here, with cheesy goodness! Chicken was cooked throughout, without being dry. Bacon was certainly present, giving extra flavor to the sandwich. The pickles was fun too, with that crunchy texture, and acidic flavor that balance out the sweetness of the cheese and the bread.

We had a nice lunch here, satisfied and full. I do think eating them right when they come out, hot and fresh, is the best. It is when you get full experience of the melty cheese… They do have more tasty offerings, including some vegetarian and vegan options. I will be back when I am craving some melty comfort food…
