I saw this cute shop in the past, but for some reason, we were always there when the shop was closed… But we finally made it during their business hours!!! I love afternoon tea, and I’ve had my share of them, mostly in NYC. I am always looking for an afternoon tea wherever I go… and this shop offers afternoon tea! Yes!
We went there for lunch, and it was completely packed. So we left our name and number, and decided to walk around the Main Street for a bit. There are my cute little stores on Main Street, we had no problem killing some time. When we finally got the call, we walked back to Molly’s.
They had cute lamp made with tea pots and tea cups, perfect for this kind of shop.
We got pots of tea to go with our lunches. They had nice selection of all sorts of tea. We wanted Victorian London Fog, but they were out of that…so, we hopped on a plane/train/ferry and went over to Paris. It is from their Black Tea selection. Paris is a blend of black tea, currant, caramel & citrus. Fruity tea with a hint of lemony Bergamot and vanilla. It was a nice black tea, I could taste the fruity notes, and a nice aroma of Bergamot.
The tea pots came with really awesome sand timer for tea! I have never seen anything like this, how clever! So you just watch the sand color that matches your tea type, and once that color is done, so is your tea!
They had a few choices for afternoon tea, and we went with the classic, Queen’s Luncheon ($16.95). It comes with a fresh scone served with lemon curd and cream, followed by a tiered tray of tea sandwiches and an assortment of mini sweet. I asked about the portion size, and the staff told us that it can be for two people if we added scone or two.
Since there were three of us, and we all wanted to try the scones, we added two extra scones with curd and cream ($3.75/extra scone). They happened to have three kinds of homemade scones, so it worked out. We got Raspberry with White Chocolate, Mixed Berry, and Raisin Scones. We could choose from Lemon Curd, Strawberry Jam, or Raspberry Jam to go with each scone, so we each got different one. Now, we get to taste all of them! And the scones were quite good, soft and moist, flavorful and tasty! It didn’t come with clotted cream though, but whipped cream.
Now, the tea sandwiches. The first one up was Crabmeat Salad on Croissant, made with fresh lump crabmeat, celery, dun dried tomatoes, corn and mayonnaise. It was super flavorful! Nice lumps of crabmeat, with great seasoning! I liked the corn in there too.
Next was one was Tuna with Dill & Lemon on thin puff pastry, made with all white tuna with mayonnaise, dill, celery and a touch of lemon. It was quite good, I enjoyed the little bite. They had another little treat, Curried Chicken Salad on thin pastry, made with a blend of white breast chicken, curry, raisins, walnuts, celery and mayonnaise. It had a nice curry aroma but not much curry flavor. Chicken chunks were nice.
We did get a good amount of regular-sized sandwiches, perfect for sharing among two people. The first one was Tarragon Egg Salad Sandwich, a blend of farm fresh eggs, mayonnaise, tarragon and celery. I do like egg salad sandwich, so this was nice to have, even though it wasn’t anything special. Then the Traditional Chicken Salad Sandwich, with white chicken breast, celery and mayonnaise. It was creamy and with good chunks of chicken. The last but not least, Cucumber and Herbed Cheese Sandwich in a small sandwich shape. It is made with sliced cucumbers with an herbed cheese spread. The bread was fluffy, cucumbers were crunchy, it was creamy and cheesy sandwich.
After all the savory part was done, we moved on to the mini sweets. The first one was Raspberry Shortbread. It was moist and dense, with really nice flavor. Then a Snow ball Cookie which had loads and loads of chocolate chips in there. It was crumbly, with hint of salt that brought out the sweetness of the cookie.
The Apple Caramel Cake was soft and moist, soooo tasty! This one was my favorite! Great apple and caramel flavor. Last but not least, Walnut Chocolate Chip Brownie. It was dense and very chocolatey.
We had a really nice lunch here with super affordable afternoon tea. Where in NYC (or anywhere, really) can you get an afternoon tea for two people at around $21??? This was such a bargain! I am glad we finally got to try their afternoon tea. They do offer more than afternoon tea, so it is a great spot for lunch. No wonder they are locals’ favorite!
