Moon Kee

I somehow completely forgot about this Dim Sum spot somehow, but hey, better late than never! So, we visited Moon Kee in January, on a cold day. It was still early, before the lunch rush, so it was not busy when we arrived. It got lively about the time we left though. The inside was large, clean, and inviting. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with warm welcome immediately by a staff.

We got a nice booth seat, and a staff brought us complimentary hot Jasmin tea for us. It was a lucky tea, if you know what I mean, with the tea leaf! It is so nice to get a nice hot tea on a cold day, especially on the house! I appreciate a free tea service.

We ordered a few things to share. We tried to get some variety of things, from veggies to meat to seafood dishes.

One of them was from a Lunch Special Menu, that comes white rice, Vegetable Spring Roll, and choice of a soup. We went with Egg Drop Soup with Sweet Corn. The soup came first. It had great aroma of corn and lots of sweet corns.

The Lunch Special of our choice was Sauteed Bok Choy with Garlic ($14). The great thing about Moon Kee is that they offer Lunch Special every day, including weekends! The Bok Choy had wonderful garlic aroma, with loads of garlic. Spring roll was great too, crunchy and tasty. I say the lunch special deal is a really great deal for sure.

The second item was Crystal Shrimp Dumplings ($8). The order came with four dumplings and I see why they call it crystal. The wrapper was shiny, and slightly see-through, creating that beautiful shine like crystal gem. It was silky and mochi-y, with each dumpling holding one large, super plump shrimp inside. It was pretty darn good.

Moving on, Roast Pork Rice Roll ($8). We had some delicious rice rolls from Chinatown in the past, and we’ve become a fan of them. It was really good here too, with pork that is packed with flavor. The rice roll was silky and filling. Really satisfying!

We added a few more dishes. Pan-Fried Pork & Shrimp Chives Dumpling ($7). It had a nice crispy top, but still plump and mochi-y, and had loads of chives which I love. It was not large, yet quite satisfying and comforting. They were lightly fried, so not greasy.

Then, Stuffed Eggplant with Mince Shrimp ($8). They looked interesting, and different from what I expected. The eggplant was super juicy with nice little crunchy texture on the area that got grilled. In the middle part, there were bits of shrimp, kind of sandwiched between two ends of the eggplant. Not really “stuffed” but it was still really good!

The last thing I ordered was Deep Fried Pork & Dry Shrimp Mochi ($7). The exterior was very crispy, lightly fried and not greasy. Then, under the crunchiness was doughy like mochi, with sweet flavor. The filling was juicy and had the perfect amount of salty seasoning. It was really delicious!

We had a really nice lunch here at Moon Kee. The staffs were very efficient and friendly. We enjoyed every dish we ordered, and the price was great too. Very affordable! We were very happy with the food and left will full tummy. We would definitely go back again when we get craving for some dim sum!
