When you are in Boston, you gotta get your hands on some good ole’ Lobstah Roll! And it could be found at so many different places, but most of them were pretty pricey. And, the portion of lobster roll is not that great. After doing some research, I found an old school spot that offers affordable lobster roll of a good size. It is located in a nice cute neighborhood, Little Italy of downtown.
It is a small, no-frills kind of shop. They do have a good amount of seating for a small shop. On this day, they were preparing a large catering order, so they had lots of large boxes occupying some of the tables. It was a good thing we went on a quiet day.
Their decor is simple and homey, and although it doesn’t have lots of chairs, they had more seating than I expected. We sat where the AC was blowing cool air, as it was a bit hot and steamy day.
Now, let’s talk about their lobster rolls. They serve them two ways: Classic Cold and Hot. The price is market, therefore it might change frequently. It is served with a bag of chips, which can be substituted for additional cost. We decided to get both kinds of the lobster rolls and different kinds of sides.
I ordered Classic Cold ($17.99), and I got it with Onion Rings (additional $1). The lobster roll is about 7oz and has chunks of fresh lobster meat, tossed in light mayo with a twist of lemon, and lobster broth, served cold on a grilled New England style hot dog roll. It is quite large and heavy!
Cold one is really chilled, super fresh and has no fillers! Nothing but knuckle and claw meats that are soft, tender and juicy. The Classic Cold lobster meats are bit more firm as they are, well, cold. Not covered in mayo but just enough to give that extra flavor, making it not greasy. Very refreshing and tasty on a hot summer day! Onion rings were big and crunchy, nothing too special, but hit the spot.
The Hot Lobster Roll ($19.99) is their real classic roll, tossed in hot butter, twist of lemon and served hot on a grilled New England style hot dog roll. My hubby ordered the Hot Lobster Roll with Cheese Fries. It was quite the size and had some weight to it. Some say that their lobster rolls are the biggest in town!
The meat was much more soft and yes, buttery than the cold. Again, huge chunks of meat with no fillers! Lobsters are tender and juicy, with the soft, buttery bun, it was like a warm cloud… one bite and I was hooked to this lobster (pun intended). Cheese fries were good, nothing fancy but comforting kind. Crunchy and addicting.
The staffs here were super friendly and welcoming. We didn’t feel rushed even thought they were very busy with their catering order. The inside was clean and cozy. The lobstah roll were delicious and super filling!!! I am glad we got to have more of an old-fashioned, no-frills kind of lobster roll, instead of having it at some modern, fancy restaurants. The price is good and the portion is great. I would definitely go back for more!
