I am always looking for a new dessert place. The choice is limitless in NYC, but it is not always easy to find a place that have what you really like and enjoy. When I saw some photos from this place, I got very curious… It is located inside the Lotte New York Palace hotel, but you can enter from the street. The entrance is on the left side of the hotel entrance. The door was framed in bright red, so it was easy to spot.
The inside was not too small or too big, it was a good size for a dessert cafe. Nice and bright, with good amount of seating. It had high ceiling, creating sense of larger space. It was clean, modern, with red accents on the walls. They had a nice large flower arrangement in the middle that goes almost to the ceiling.
The walls behind counter were glittering gold, creating a fancy atmosphere. They had window showcase holding desserts, well lit, looking as pretty as they could. Since they offer drinks and such, they had milk, creamer, sugar, etc. near the entrance.
And the desserts…my goodness they were all so pretty! It was more like a jewelry showcase than desserts. Each one was crafted like an art, with wonderful color and shapes. I knew I was going to have a difficult time choosing which one to order.
They had some very pretty gift bags and sets too. Snacks like chocolate, gummy bears, and drinks like coffee and tea sets. Cute little colorful gifts for any little occasions. As this place is attached to a hotel, it would be convenient for out-of-towner guests staying at the hotel also.
They offer quick breakfast and lunch items, such as sandwich, wrap, and salad. We were there for the sweets, so we just got some desserts with drinks.
The first one of our choices was Vanilla Napoleon ($7.50). It was a good size and had lots of decadent looking cream…I was sold!
It had nice flaky puff pastry, layered sideways with golden creams. I could see the vanilla beans in the cream. It had nice aroma of vanilla, and even better flavor of rich vanilla. It was delicious and exactly what I wanted. And it had a generous amount of the cream, throughout the whole thing. Heavenly!
The second item was a Raspberry Eclair ($6.25). It was beautiful and shiny, so did all other eclairs. They had a handful of eclair selections, and they all looked and sounded good…
We went with the one that somewhat reminded me of Christmas, with bright red and green chocolate on top. When I cut into half, I was happy with what I saw. The thing with eclair is that not everyone will give you a good amount of fillings. Here, they had a generous amount of cream filling in it. Thank you! It was creamy and velvety, with crunchy and flaky shell. Strong flavor of raspberry without being too loud. Great eclair!
The last item we chose was Red Velvet Cheesecake ($8). It was extra shiny with is special coating on the cake. Almost as if it is made of porcelain. It had red velvet macaron on top, with cute little decoration like a butterfly and a heart around the cake.
When I cut it open, I saw three layers of red velvet cake, with butter cream cheese in between. The coating and filling tasted somewhat like a sweetened yogurt. I enjoyed this cake, well crafted and fun to eat.
For drinks, we had Cappuccino ($4.40/large) and Mocha ($4.60 medium). The thing about cappuccino is that the foam part will get deflated in a way, and you actually get a little less coffee than other kinds. It was a good coffee though, strong and tasty. I believe they use illy coffee, as they sell illy coffee as a gift here.
The mocha was filled to the rim, awesome! It was tasty and flavorful, and medium size cup was pretty big. Definitely got my money’s worth.
All of our orders came on/in paper plates and cups, but that was ok. The staffs were nice and polite. The place was very clean, and while our visit, I saw one staff coming out from behind the counter to clean out the trash and such. We had a nice afternoon snack here, high quality and tasty. I am glad we discovered another dessert place in the city!
