Prime & Beyond

One of my friends told me about this spot years ago, and it has been on my list of places to visit for a long time… I was told that Prime & Beyond is a butcher shop, and at the back, they have some tables where you can sit and eat their delectable meat dishes. Interesting, isn’t it?

We finally got to visit Prime & Beyond in April. Right at the entrance, they had some special refrigerated compartments with all sorts of aged meats and such in them. They had a small counter at the back to order and or pick up your meat to go.

To the right was a large dining area. Nothing like I imagined to be. I thought it was more of a butcher shop as the main, and then having small space put aside, kind of hidden in the back, for dining. I was totally wrong! But who knows, maybe with their popularity, the dining area expanded over the years?

We were there for 12 noon reservation, on Sunday, it was empty and quiet. It did get busier as time passed, but I didn’t feel like we needed the reservation for Sunday lunch. We ordered Coffee ($4) and they brought out some chips and dips. The dips were house made onion dips, from what I understand, and pretty darn tasty. Coffee came with free refill, which was great.

When at a fancy steakhouse such as Peter Luger, or a restaurant attached to a butcher such as Brownsville Butcher & Pantry, we can’t seem to resist ordering bacon. LOL. When my husband saw Thick Bacon ($24) in the appetizer, he just had to have it. So, here it is, the glorious thick bacon! But it wasn’t just one strip of bacon, but two super juicy and meaty strips! It came with a dab of real mustard on the side. It was a huge piece, so good and totally worth the price.

For main, we ordered Signature Lunch Box ($34) and Kimchi Fried Rice with Skirt Steak ($29). If you are wondering about kimchi, you are not alone. I didn’t know this is a Korean steakhouse either! How interesting! Since we enjoy Korean dishes, it was a nice surprise. We also received a side of kimchi vegetable as well.

Signature Lunch Box is pricey, but it comes with a whole lot! You could even share among two people in my opinion. It came with some salad, tempura, fried egg, sausages and bacon (not thick bacon), steak, rice, and what I believe is Bibimguksu. It was funny when I tried what I thought was some kind of tomato sauce and spaghetti, which turned out to be a cold, spicy noodle dish.

The steak pieces were quite nice, some more cooked than others, but we were fine with that. Tempura pieces were super crunchy and lightly fried. Egg was cooked to our liking, and we enjoyed every part of this lunch box! We were not able finish them all, so we took whatever was left home with us.

Kimchi fried rice was much spicier than expected, and had real kick to it! Steak was done more medium-well than medium-rare which is what I requested, but still very tasty. They were so juicy and tender. It also had fried egg, perfect cooked to give us egg porn.

It had a generous amount of steak on top of delicious kimchi fried rice. I really enjoyed it. Very filling and satisfying.

Once we packed up the leftover food, my husband was ready for a dessert. Why dessert when you are so full, you couldn’t even finish your food? Good question… Well, that is how we role sometimes. We ordered their Crème Brûlée ($9) and another refill on our coffee. It seems like they blow torched the top before the staff brought it out, so it was slightly warm on the top, and cold on the bottom. Be careful when touching the plate on the top! It was a decent dessert, nothing special, but perfect for when you have a craving for something sweet.

They have one gender-neutral bathroom by the bar counter. It was spacious, bright, and clean.

We had a nice, filling lunch here at Prime & Beyond. I wouldn’t say it is affordable, but you get to have really nice pieces of meat here, with Korean twist. We enjoyed them all. I would like to go back there again when we want another steakhouse experience in the near future.
