Red’s Restaurant & Lounge

One of the best views you can get from a restaurant is a view of the beach. We found a great one in Cape Cod. It is named after a former basketball coach and the former owner, “Red” Auerbach. You can find memorabilia everywhere, which is fun for the fans to see. They offer burgers, salads, seafood, pizza and more, giving patrons good amount of options to choose from. It is a restaurant inside Sea Crest Beach Hotel, so you will see the hotel guests enjoying the food from here as well.

The inside is nice and big, with most of the space being enclosed patio with the beautiful view of Old Silver Beach. The sunlight floods in from the windows all round, almost feeling like as if you are sitting outdoor. The open space however, also allows everyone’s voice to carry throughout the space, making it quite noisy there even with small amount of patrons in there.

I heard they have an actual outdoor seating, and I saw a very small space with tables there. When I inquired about it, we were told that it is not really a part of the restaurant. You can get some food and drinks there, but not the same menu, more like takeout menu. You can still take a walk on the picturesque boardwalk after the dinner, what a great way to calm your full tummy.

But before you do that, let’s get some food! The staff brought some complimentary bread, which contained a few different kinds in it. I especially liked the cheese bread and cranberry bread.

Then we got some cocktails. Their cocktail menu was cute, it had some fun and nostalgia feel to it. And their drink menu was big! I am sure everyone can find something you like out of here. Their food and drink menus are nicely formatted with clean and neat, large font that is easy to read.

I ordered from their frozen drinks section, Miami Vice ($11.68), made with Half Strawberry Daiquiri and Half Pina Colada. What a perfect mix of Summer drinks by the beach! It was sweet with good, strong strawberry and Pina Colada flavor. It was great for someone who enjoys sweet frozen drinks.

My hubby ordered Meadow Mule ($11.21), made with Bombay Sapphire, Elderflower, lemon juice and ginger beer. It was pretty sweet like ginger ale, not like the typical Mule that we were used to, and not so strong. If you like sweet ginger ale, this might be a good choice for you.

For food, we all ordered a different dish. The first one was Red’s Dry-Rubbed Rack of Ribs ($23), served with a side of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce, Fries, Coleslaw, and Corn Bread. This dish was HUGE!!! My goodness, you should be sure to be super hungry… It is enough for two or more people.

Ribs were cooked perfectly, fall off the bones good!!! Since it was “dry-rubbed” ribs, having a liquid-y sauce was good addition. The meat was sweet, covered with lots of dry seasoning that is packed with flavor. There were a good amount of meats to take home with after the dinner.

Second dish was New England Lobster Roll ($28), with 1/4 pound Fresh Maine Lobster Meat, Citrus Mayo, Crisp Lettuce, and Coleslaw. It also comes with a choice of fries, salad or chips. This one is with salad. The roll was a nice size too, with lots of lobster meat, fresh and tasty.

The third one was Chili-Seared Yellowfin Tuna ($35), with Braised Baby Bok Choy, Lobster Fried Rice. This was a nice big portion too.

It was recommended for it to be served raw, just seared. I liked that so I went with the recommendation. With the chili spice, it had a good kick to it. Tuna pieces were big and thick, fresh, and moist, I enjoyed it. The lobster fried rice had a good amount of lobster chunks in it, fluffy and tasty.

The last item was the most impressive. It was Red’s Clam Bake ($55/Market Price), comes with 1.5-pound Lobster, Sweet Corn, Baby Potatoes, Chorizo, Mussels, Drawn Butter, Lemon all Poached Together in a net bag.

It was kind of fun to get the net open and pick up the huge lobster out! The lobster meat was sweet, juicy and awesome, especially with butter! Most of other ingredients in the net were good, except mussels… The mussels were not that good, kind of fishy and not so tasty…

Bathroom is located in the hallway in the hotel, since the restaurant is in the hotel. Since it is shared with the hotel, many people use it and not very well maintained… But then, right before I left the bathroom, a staff came in to clean the bathroom, so I must have seen the bathroom at its worst condition before it gets the scheduled cleaning.

The service was friendly and welcoming, but it was not easy to find them sometimes. It was not that busy when we went, but then our server disappeared off and on. So that made it difficult when we needed something…and made the dinner a bit longer than it should, good thing we were not in a hurry. Other than that, it was a pleasant dinner, and we certainly enjoyed the walk by the beach after the dinner.
