While we were in Boston, we wanted a little snack in the evening instead of having a full dinner. We found this spot called Saus Boston that focuses on fries. Not just any fries, Belgian style fries! They provide made-from-scratch food in a casual setting.
The inside is not big but not too small. They had a large table at the entrance, can be used for a big group, or as a communal table. The rest of the space has seating with smaller table on the left side of the wall.
Not much seating, but then again, people come here mainly for snacks. So, the turnover is pretty quick, unless they start drinking. Then, they might stay a while. At the back is their kitchen and ordering counter. The column by the kitchen had an instruction on how to get your snack on. You need to order your food at the counter, pay for them, and then take your seat. Go back and pick up your food when your name is called. Simple enough.
It seems like the decoration on the walls are all about Tin Tin, keeping up with Belgian theme. I love Tin Tin so this was really cute. They had complimentary water by the staircase, which is always a plus.
Ok, time to talk about their food. We got Hand Cut Fries ($5.50/Regular). Saus Boston has all sorts of poutine and other fancy kinds, but we want to try the very basic one, as we heart it is the best way to get the true flavor.
We got two kinds of sauce to go with it, Secret Saus ($0.75) and Truffle Ketchup ($0.75). We also spotted complimentary Housemade Hot Saus, so we got that as well. They believe in the “power of the condiment” and therefore they offer 15 plus unique sauces! Wow! Truffle ketchup was awesome, great strong truffle flavor and went great with the fries. Secret saus is Mayo based. thick like hummus and taste little bit like it too. Housemade hot saus has real kick to it without losing the flavor. I actually liked having a little hot sauce with the ketchup or the secret saus together, giving the ketchup and the secret saus a little kick.
The “Regular” sized fries were pretty big, enough to share! They are made with Idaho russets, house-aged and twice fried. Potatoes were fried perfectly, crunchy exterior and soft and potato-y inside. Definitely reminded me of the real Belgian fries that I had in Belgium. Great little snack!
Their bathroom is located downstairs. The stairs are by the complimentary water. There is only one uni-sex bathroom, so there might be a line if you are there during the busy late-night snacking and drinking hours.
The inside is spacious, simple, with a fun cartoon drawn on the wall. Fitting with Tin Tin books. They didn’t have toilet paper on the holder, just sitting on the toilet. Why don’t they install a toilet paper holder on a wall? I do not know…
