Since I found a new love in Boston with Tatte (you can read about it here: http://www.foodlovergirl.com/tatte-bakery-cafe-back-bay/), I also found out that they have multiple locations! Thanks! The one located on Charles Street was directly on the way to the conference I was attending, so I started to go to this location on the way to work.
It is much smaller than the one at Back Bay, but cozy and welcoming. The decoration as well as their menu offering is about the same, so you could still get the same good delights from here. The seating is quite limited, just a handful of tables and a few counter seating by the entrance/exit. But, they do have a lovely outdoor seating, although not large, but with nice greenery and a few enthusiastic little birds.
On a first day, I got a few baked goods to go. Since I love croissant, especially almond or chocolate kind, I ordered an Almond Croissant ($4.50). It was large, fluffy, sweet, flaky…everything I wanted it to be. REALLY tasty!!! With its size, it was quite filling too.
In order to get my chocolate-fix, I also got something called Chocolate Rose ($3). It kind of made me think of a ram’s head instead of a rose… Regardless, it was good, tasty, not too chocolate-y but still got the chocolate flavor that I wanted. It was flaky and light on the top, and dense and moist on the bottom. This was also quite filling.
On the second day, I had more time in the morning than the day before, so I decided to have my breakfast right there. I sat at one of the picnic tables outside, with my beautiful breakfast.
Since it was already warm in early morning, I ordered Iced Mocha ($4.25/small). It was good, strong espresso with very noticeable mocha flavor. They use Stumptown’s coffee, and it was a great cup of iced coffee for sure! It went down smooth on a hot day, nice way to wake up the body and brain.
On this day, I ordered something I was curious about on their menu. Ricotta & Jam Tartine ($8.50), made with whipped ricotta and seasonal jam on toasted sourdough. These were HUGE pieces of bread, much bigger than I expected them to be…
It had loads of decadent whipped ricotta, spread all the way to the edges, and with pile of fresh jam… My goodness, it was so rich, creamy, fresh and tart, each bite was heavenly. SO much so that the little birdie was looking at me with so much jealousy in his eyes. The thing was, I don’t think this item was meant to be eaten by one person. It was so filling that after having a half of one, I was getting really full. I took the rest with me to work, and gave the other piece to a happy taker. Giving this much of high quality, delicious breakfast item for below $10 is so crazy, it should be a crime!
So, there you have it. This location is also a pretty darn good spot for a quick or relaxing breakfast. And having them at convenient locations makes it even better. I will miss you Tatte, until you expand into NYC, or I go back to Boston again…
