Around the Christmas holiday season, we went to The Glass Onion in Cape Cod for dinner. It was a cozy restaurant, smaller than I thought it would be. The inside was relaxing atmosphere with earthy tone. They had a fully stocked bar near the entrance. Since we had a reservation, and it was not busy there, we were taken to our table immediately.
We started off with cocktails. Rub-dub-dub ($14) with Citrus Vodka, Lemon, and Le Bleu Combier. Cucumber G&T ($14) with Gin, Tonic, Cumber, and Lime. Blackberry Mojito ($13) with Rum, Crème de Mûre, Mint, Lime, and Soda. I was happy to see the little duck on my Rub-dub-dub cocktail, it was so cute! The color of the drink was so extremely blue, almost suspiciously blue… The cocktail was not for me, it didn’t have any flavor, I am sad to say I did not enjoy it. I was not a fan of their Mojitos either. The Cucumber G&T was ok.
For food, we ordered two appetizers to share. One of them was the special of the day, which I forgot to take a note of… It was Duck with Noodles, to sum it up. It was really tasty, with tender, juicy meat, and noodles with great flavor. The noodles had kind of Asian flavor to it, which went great with the duck. I really enjoyed this dish! The other one was from their regular menu, Lobster Strudel ($24). It is made with Mascarpone, Phyllo, Lobster, and Butter Sauce. The dish sounded very interesting so we wanted to try it. It came out looking almost like a spring roll. The phyllo was beautiful golden color, and super crispy. The filling was pretty good, with a good amount of lobster meat. It sure was an interesting appetizer dish.
For main, we ordered Seafood Risotto ($42), Seared Scallops ($39), and Wester Ross Salmon ($35). Seems that we were all feeling some kind of seafood on this evening. I always enjoy a good risotto every now and then, and this one sounded good. Seafood Risotto is made with Lobster, Wild White Shrimp, Celeriac and Spinach Risotto, and Beurre Blanc. The shrimps were large and plump, and the chunks of lobster meat was good too. The risotto was creamy and flavorful, very comforting. My hubby loves scallops, and he hasn’t had scallops for a while, so he decided to go with that. Seared Scallops is made with is made with Cheddar Polenta, Sofrito Butter, Cauliflower, Cherry Tomatoes, and Herb Oil. The scallops were seared just right, and it was filling with veggies and polenta. The buttery flavor made this more decadent, and the scallops were very tasty. Wester Ross Salmon was made with Apple Cider Glaze, Winter Fruit and Vegetable Sauté, and Leek Cream. It came with a large salmon fillet, golden on top, and lots of veggies underneath. The salmon was flakey and tasty, and the dish was filling and satisfying.
We all enjoyed our dishes, so of course, we had to try some desserts! We ordered two to share. Crème Brûlée ($12) and Callebaut Chocolate Mousse ($12) with Whipped Cream. They were both good, solid classic kind of desserts. The mousse was more solid than I expected it to be, but chocolaty, and anglaise sauce with whipped cream made this dessert rich and extra tasty.
We had a nice meal here at The Glass Onion. The service was polite and courteous. The drink was not good but the food was good. The atmosphere was relaxing, and we never felt rushed. The prices are a bit high compared to some other places, but they serve quality and tasty dishes. The special duck appetizer was my favorite of the evening.
