I really do enjoy going to a Speakeasy or a bar that has the Speakeasy-feel to it. If you are not familiar with the term, The Honey Well had its definition on their sign: An illicit liquor store or night club inconspicuously located. They also had an example “Honey Well “doesn’t” serve cocktails *Wink, Wink*” Oh yeah, definitely my kind of place! The entrance was below street level, with a door without any marking.
We arrived shortly after they opened, so it was quiet. But, it did get busy shortly after. Seems like a popular spots among the locals. It is a bit small, with mainly bar seating, with some small table seating. They had a bit more seating in the back. The inside was dimly lit with yellow-ish hue, creating relaxing atmosphere.
The décor was interesting to say the least. I would say, reminiscent of oldies with matching music. I liked the super old TV set near the entrance. The music is a little too loud though.
We were there for some craft cocktails and a small bite. We ordered The Funkadelic ($15) and Modern Day Mind Eraser ($15).
The Funkadelic is their “not so secret” Lava Lamp Cocktail. It came in a container that looks just like a lava lamp!!! How fun! It was also fun to watch them make it too. It is a Pisgo liquor based drink, very strong. Kind of a flavorful Pisgo & Tonic cocktail. I so enjoyed drinking my lava lamp!
Modern Day Mind Eraser is known as Boozy Bong, as it came in a bong container. Super cool! It was citrusy and minty, and again, strong! The main ingredients are Gin, lemon juice, and apple, I think. Very tasty!
The little snack of choice was Fried Goat Cheese Balls ($10), drizzled with honey & crushed pistachio. It had super crispy exterior, with crumbly goat cheese in the inside. Sweet with honey, but not overly sweet. Just the right amount of subtle sweetness. Nice accompaniment to tasty drinks.
The staffs here were really nice and friendly, and they sure know how to make some strong, flavorful, and unique cocktails! I would love to go back for more of their craft cocktails and tasty bites in a new future!
