The Lobster Trap

We’ve been to a few restaurant in/around Falmouth when we visit Cape Cod, but there are still many restaurants to discover… We found a new spot this summer, with good reviews from their customers. It is located in a rustic riverfront with the view of water. They offer complimentary valet parking for convenience.

The first door is their fish shop, which is how they originally started. They opened up as a neighborhood fish market many decades ago, and then expanded into restaurant and more. I took a peak at the fish market, and it looked really good! They had all sorts of fish, shellfish, live lobsters, etc., etc… The price was about the same as other fish markets in town, but they do offer some items that only they can offer, such as their own special crab cake.

The second door is where the hostess station is, and also, where you can place to-go orders. This is where the bathroom is located as well. For a nice size restaurant, they only have one bathroom per each sex…it was a clean and roomy bathroom.

They do not take reservation, so if you didn’t get there when they first opened for the day, expect to have 30 min to one hour wait. Just give your name and number to one of their staffs with lovely smiles, then kill some time while read some super old articles on the wall, look at some merchandises…

Or, you can step outside and sit at one of their cool chairs and benches made out of lobster trap! If you don’t want to sit around with empty hands, then walk a bit further up to their bar, and get your drink on while wait!

And that is what we did. We got some drinks, went back to the lobby area where we found seats, and waited for our table to be ready. We got Perfect Sangria ($10), made with house made blend of red wine, vodka, flavored liquors, and fresh fruits. It was refreshing, strong and tasty, with generous amount of fruits. A really nice Sangria!

They have a large indoor seating, which had kind of a huge lodge feeling to it. Loads of natural lights flooding in from large windows. Since it is a one big room, the space can get quite noisy. They have a patio seating right next to it, with covered ceiling so that you can seat outside rain or shine.

We opted for a “real” outdoor seating, which was rather small space. They had Sumbrellas, heated lamps, and yes, the view. It was really great, but it got pretty chilly when the Sun went down. With all these seating, but still not enough to meet their super popular demand. Must be a good sign of their tasty food…

Once we sat, we got another drink to go with our food. I think they ran out of their fancy wine glasses and other glassware, so we got our drinks in plastic cups, which was totally fine. I got Smokey Peach Margarita ($11), made with Jose Cuervo Silver, Mezcal, fresh peach, agave nectar, and fresh squeezed lime, It was not as peachy as I would’ve liked, but very strong! My hubby went with Spicy Cucumber and Cilantro Margarita ($12), made with tequila, muddled cukes, cilantro, agave nectar, and fresh squeezed lime. It was again really strong, and had the little kick to it.

We ordered two Crab Cakes ($14/each) to share among the four of us. It is made with lump crab and seasoned crumbs, with spicy aioli and mango salsa. It was rather big, much bigger than I expected, which was great.

The Crab Cake had a generous amount of crab meat, soft and juicy, packed flavor! It was large enough to share among two people, even though you totally don’t want to share it… One of the best crab cake I’ve ever had!

For main, one of us ordered Seafood Platter ($26). It comes with fried cod, clams, scallop, and shrimp. It was a mountain of fried seafood atop fries, so great! They were lightly fried, crispy exterior and juicy inside. Really nice!

Two of us when with Lobster Roll ($25), made with lobster, mayo, lettuce, and brioche. What a beauty… Simple perfection.

It was big and had a nice weight to it, quite heavy! It had loads of big lobster meat chunks on perfectly toasted bun, buttery but not too much. It had kind of crispy coleslaw type of thing on the bottom of the lobsters, adding extra texture and refreshing flavor. Fries were really good too. Yum!

My hubby went with something that requires a special bib… Yup, he is that special. He got “The Bucket” ($40), that comes with 1-1/4 lb. lobster, steamers, grilled linguiça, and corn on the cob.

It was impressive, and certainly lives up to the name… A bucket full of delightful and delicious treasures! It had a huge lobster, which is impressive on its own. My hubby had to become a caveman to eat that. You might not be able to see from the photo, but it had loads of steamers, meaty and fresh. Great with a little melted butter. Linguiça had a little kick to it, and packed with flavor. Soooo good!

About the time we finished the fantastic dinner, it was already getting dark. Our server brought fresh-nap for my hubby, to bring him back from a caveman to a civilized, modern gentleman. The outside seating got more romantic under the moonlight and soft lighting.

The service was warm and friendly, and food was amazing. We were all so very full! I don’t even know if they offer desserts, since none of us had any room left in our stomach. It was great from the first bite to the last! I would love to go back again for more amazing food!
