The Station Grill

When we visit Cape Cod, we love to go biking on their bike path. I saw a sign by red brick building along the way, offering ice cream and food. I was curious, but never had the chance to stop by. This year, we finally decided to check out The Station Grill. It is right by the Shining Sea Bike Path, so it was easy to stop by. It is a bus depot, and the building is a historical Falmouth station, and hosting bus ticket booth in the inside.

The mom and pop operation, opened in 2018, and seems to be a popular spot by the locals. They are open year-round, which is great! On normal days, they have nice indoor seating space for dining. But, with the current COVID-19, they had to close the indoor seating area.

The inside is rather large, with tables and chairs to one end, near the ordering counter (on normal days). They had many artworks on the wall by local artists for sale. As it is a bus depot, it is not a full-on restaurant. Most of the space is left open. They had pretty flowers on each table, making the area welcoming. They also had a bookshelf by the dining area, and all the books were for sale as well. As they were used books, the prices were around $2 each. How cool is that?

Even though you can no longer eat indoor, until we are safe once again from COVID-19, but they do have lovely outdoor seating! They have several picnic tables, and a couple of small tables with chairs in the middle. They have free water for your adorable dogs, and I hear they have corn hole game and such during the summer.

On our first visit, we were not sure how the food was going to be like, but we were excited to try them. They didn’t have all the items listed on the menu that day, but they had variety of things to choose from. Since I am a fan of pulled pork, I went with Pulled Pork with Gravy ($8.99) sandwich. I got it on whole wheat bread. It had a generous amount of pulled pork, which was really tasty! But since it only had the pork with gravy, I felt something was missing. I wanted more different flavor added, like lettuce or something… It was still a really nice sandwich though.

My hubby went with Pulled Ham & Cheese ($8.99) sandwich. I must say, when I heard that order, I was imagining some boring sandwich made with deli meat with cheese. I was so wrong! It had crazy amount of chunks of pulled ham, the REAL kind. It also came with fresh and crispy lettuce and ripe tomato. It was SUPER delicious! It is not any typical boring ham and cheese sandwich. Also, the buns were really nice and soft, and they were buttered and toasted just right, making the sandwich even tastier.

We had a really nice lunch, so we decided to try some ice cream! They didn’t have much flavors on this day, so we just got Vanilla Ice Cream ($4.95/small) in a cup. It was a nice, solid ice cream. Velvety and creamy, good vanilla flavor. And we got quite nice size scoops for small size! Thanks!

After the first visit, we became fans of this eatery. The owners, Chef John and Chef Marion were really sweet and welcoming. They had lovely and warm smile, letting you know how much they appreciate your business. Makes you want to go back again and again…and so we did!

On our second visit, we decided to try their breakfast items for lunch. Yes, breakfast items are served all day while supply last! My hubby went with Linguiça, Egg & Cheese ($5.75). According to my hubby, the size of the breakfast sandwich is smaller, but I couldn’t tell that much of difference… Linguiça was really nice, plump and juicy, with a little kick to it. There was a fried egg on the bottom, holding the Linguiça pieces like precious babies. Melty cheese were cuddling them from the top… Simple yet satisfying!

Since I enjoyed their pulled ham so much the last time, I went with Pulled Ham, Egg & Cheese ($5.75) sandwich. Pulled ham was amazing! As amazing as we remembered. Juicy and tender, with perfect amount of seasoning. You can see the egg on the bottom here. They put some kind of gravy type sauce on most everything, which is great, as their gravy is banging! We really enjoyed both sandwiches!

Before we left, we heard another customer talking about their chicken salad sandwich. I got curious, so I asked Chef Marion about it, and she gave us samples of her popular chicken salad. It was soooo good! I knew what I was going to order at our next visit. At this point, we decided to make The Station Grill lunch to be our fun weekend tradition.

So, here comes the following weekend. I got my Fresh Chicken Salad ($8.99) sandwich. It was big, loaded with chunks of chicken meat!

It had fresh lettuce and tomato, making it extra big. I was so excited, and with one bite, it took me to a sandwich heaven. It was, as described, “fresh” and meaty, moist and tender. I believe Chef Marion makes this chicken salad, it is so delicious!

My hubby tried the Pulled Ham, Egg & Cheese ($5.75) sandwich again. It was as good as we remembered. Their pulled ham is really, REALLY good! Buns are soft and fluffy, buttered and toasted to perfection as always.

As we were enjoying our lunch break from the bike ride, we noticed a sign on the outside of the building. It had “Sandwiches, Ice Cream, Beverages, Kindness” I thought it is so true about all of them! They do serve tasty food with a side of kindness every single time! It really made us smile. We were looking forward to going back every weekend.

The next weekend, I wanted to try something very different. I heard The Station Grill has pretty good hot dog, so I decided to go with that. Chef John asked what I wanted on it. They have mustard, ketchup, relish, onion, etc., all the staples. I went with relish and mustard. Here is my Falmouth Hot Dog ($3.75-ish? Sorry, forgot!) They grilled the hot dog right then and there on their outdoor grill, which was awesome! The hot dog was hearty and plump, juicy and tasty! Relish had some sweetness to it, which I liked. Bread was toasted perfectly, fluffy with almost crispy exterior. I enjoyed it!

My hubby decided to have Pulled Ham & Cheese ($8.99) sandwich once again. I feel like it was even better than the first time we tried. It was huge, meaty, and oh-so-good! Fluffy buns somehow holding all the heavy and juicy ingredients. Crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, and loads of tender pulled ham. Delicious!

Since hot dog was not huge, and we were sharing the hot dog and sandwich, we decided to have an ice cream again. I asked Chef John what his favorite flavor was, and he told me Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Cake Batter. He brought out samples for us, and they were indeed tasty! I got the Chocolate Peanut Butter ($4.95/small) in a cup. Peanut butter is not crunchy kind, but creamy and velvety. It went great with ice cream. Nice chocolate flavor, it was really good!

My hubby went with one of his favorite flavor, Mint Chocolate Chip ($.4.95/small). Very minty but in a nice way. It had chunks of chocolate, which was great. A really good, solid ice cream flavor.

By the next weekend, we were one of the regulars, and Chef John even said we are their VIP customers of The Station Grill. LOL! We so love them! On this day, I had to get Chef Marion’s super delicious Fresh Chicken Salad ($8.99) sandwich once again. They do have some Cape Cod Chips ($1.50) if you want to have a side of chips with your sandwiches. When we arrived, they were grilling up some burgers, and it smelled so good, so we decided to get the cheeseburger too.

Their 1/2 lb Fat Daddy Cheeseburger ($9.99) certainly had some weight to it. The burger was meaty and juicy, placed proudly on buttered and toasted buns. I must say, it was much better than I expected! Many people were ordering them, seems like popular item. Or, the aroma of juicy burger was calling them as it called to us… We got lettuce, tomato, onions, and Cheese. Quite filling and satisfying!

We also tried Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream and Moose Tracks Ice Cream on this day. They were both really good, but I especially enjoyed the Strawberry Cheesecake one. It had some crushed graham cookies mixed in, like the bottom of the cheesecake. And with real strawberry pieces, it was super tasty! Moose Tracks was gooey chocolatey goodness! Sorry, it was so good we forgot to take photos… In the past, we have always gone to Eulinda’s for ice cream, but now, we have found another place for tasty ice cream!

We did take photos of Coffee ($2-ish?) with cream and sugar. The coffee was also much better than I thought it would be!

Over several weekends, we had really nice lunches here at The Station Grill. They are not some fancy gourmet dishes from high-end restaurant, but very homey and tasty! We enjoyed everything we tried, and most of all, we enjoyed seeing the adorable husband & wife team. Each visit, they said “It is so good to see you again!” with big smile, which made us smile and gave us warm feeling in our hearts. Such sweet and cute couple!!! Very friendly and welcoming, definitely a place you want to go back again and again. And a side of kindness with every meal? Definitely checked. Hope to see you guys again in the summer when we go back to the Cape!

If you are looking for a place to get a good, tasty bite in the Cape, head over to The Station Grill (with face masks if you would please, and we all thank you). It is such a nice, peaceful spot, you can forget about the crazy time we are having, even for a short time…
