Still catching up on all the places we visited in Portland OR from months ago… I do want to share all these great places, so bear with me. One of the breakfast places that I was excited to go was The Waffles Window. If you look at their website and their photos, you will know the reason why. They look amazing! And I thought it is such a cute concept to get them over the window. To our surprise, when we got there, the window was closed. I was so sad, until we realized that they are actually in full operation in the inside. Yes! The entrance was around the corner, inside the Bread and Ink Cafe.
So, the “window-serve takeaway joint” was inside the cafe, which worked out great for us. It was nice to have a table seating. Inside the cafe was very large, with multiple dining rooms, with lots of tables and chairs. It was bright with natural light flooding in from the large window facing the street.
The Waffle Window offers sweet & savory Belgian-style waffles. I love Liege waffles, and excited to see how they do it with Portland Twist. Their menu was big, there is something for everyone. We decided to order one sweet, and one savory kind. I tell you, everything sounded so good, it was not easy to choose. I finally went with their Seasonal Special item, Rose City ($11.95), made with Strawberries, Rose Cream, Rhubarb Sauce, and Whipped Cream. It was super beautiful, topped with pink dome which I assume is the “rose cream” which had mousse-like texture. I am not sure how to best describe it, it was like whipped mousse, light and yet velvety. The tart rhubarb sauce went great with the sweet strawberries and whipped cream. The waffle was amazing and fluffy, super tasty!
For the savory kind, we went with Three B’s ($13.99), which stands for Bacon, Brie, and Basil. Doesn’t that sound so enticing? Just wait, it gets even better. It is made with Thick Cut Pepper Bacon, Brie Cheese, and Fresh Basil, service with House Recipe Peach Jam. It was delicious! The combination of pepper bacon and brie was amazing, and basil added that extra flavor to bring them all together. Then there is the peach jam. It was like a magic that made all the ingredients play beautiful symphony orchestra, all together in perfect melody. Delicious!
They have a bathroom in the first room, toward the back, the other end of the ordering counter. There are two gender neutral bathrooms, both accessible. It was large, clean, and well lit.
We had a really nice breakfast here at The Waffle Window. The staffs were polite and courteous. Everything was pretty much self-service, so you get your own water, silverware, etc. And one you are finished, you need to bring all the dishes and such to the front. Helps with keep the place clean easier and faster. We loved the waffles we ordered, we enjoyed every bite. I wish if we could try so many more!
