Korean food has always been popular among many people, and I am a fan of Korean cuisine as well. We’ve had some tasty Korean food in Korean Town in NYC such as Gunbae, and around Fort Lee, NJ area, such as BCD Tofu House and Madang Restaurant & Cafe and many others. With the recent successful Korean show, I feel that more people are showing interest in their culture, including food. So, here I am, offering another spot to try a Korean street food! This spot called Two Hands Corn Dog offers Korean Style street corn dogs. I’ve heard about Korean Corn Dogs becoming popular, but I didn’t know much about it. So I went to check them out!
They have more than 40 Two Hand Corn Dog locations in the US, and we went to the one in East Village. They have a large flat screen over the counter, with easy-to-read menu and how to order. It takes 10-plus minutes for each order to come out, as they are made to order. While you are waiting for your order, you can feast your eyes on colorful sticky notes on the wall, left by their customers. How cute!
They had some examples of their corn dogs that might be helpful when choosing which one to order. But the most helpful thing I saw was the instruction on “How to Enjoy Tow Hands properly” sheet. Their container is custom made to make it easier for you to eat the corn dog.
You can order individual item, but we were interested in their Combo Meal ($7.99), that comes with one corn dog, one drink, and one dirty fries. With the corn dogs, you get to choose a kind of dog, and a kind of filling. I chose Two Hands Dog for my corn dog, half sausage and half mozzarella filling, and Horchata Slush for my drink. Horchata Slush was really good, sweet but not too sweet, refreshing and flavorful.
My hubby went with Potato Dog, half sausage and half mozzarella filing, and Horchata drink. As you can see, Potato Dog was much bigger than the Two Hands Dog, due to the size of its topping. Dirty Fries were actually Tater Tots, drizzled with their Two Hands Dirty Sauce, topped with crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. I thought they will be really spicy, but actually they were not spicy at all. I wish if they had a bit more kick to it. They were still very tasty though.
So, what is the difference between the regular, or American corn dog vs. Koran corn dog? Well, it is all in the batter. While the American corn dog is made with cornmeal, Korean corn dogs are made with sweet flour batter. So, why are they called Korean “corn” dog? Hmmmm… Let me know if you know the answer! So, my choice of dog, Two Hands Dog, is made with sprinkle of Two Hands signature seasoning, and drizzled with sweet ranch sauce.
With my choice of half sausage and half mozzarella, the top half was filled with cheesy, melty mozzarella, and the other half with beef sausage. Other filling option available are; whole sausage, whole mozzarella, half mozzarella & half cheddar, whole spicy beef sausage, or whole vegan sausage. I liked having the half mozzarella and half sausage, as I was able to try two different dogs in one! The batter was doughy in a good way, fluffy and with nice, crunchy exterior. Beef was juicy with crisp exterior. Ranch added extra sweet and cool flavor that went well with the dog.
Potato Dog is made with potato cubes topping all around the dog, drizzled with Two Hands dirty sauce, and crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. This one was really impressive, really big and had a nice weight to it. The “potato” they speak of, is really tater tots, which was awesome! I absolutely LOVE tater tots, so this one was really great! It is kind of like getting their simplest dog coated with their Dirty Fries. The tots had some crispy exterior, creating some crunchy texture. The sauce and Cheetos are not spicy, so don’t let that crazy red color fool you… It was certainly filling with tater tots all over, and was very satifying.
The staffs were polite and welcoming. As each order was made to order, if you go during a busy time, the wait could be longer, so be aware…but I think it is worth the wait. They are a fun and tasty, easy to walk around while eating (as they do not have any seating). So, if you are curious about Korean street food, go over to Two Hands Corn Dog and try one of their corn dogs!
