No matter how many times you visit the same location, there is always something new that you can discover. When we went back to Cape Cod, we found this very lovely cafe. I noticed the lovely exterior of this house from the Falmouth Market, right across the street. I loved the way it looked, with cheerful yellow, pink flowers, and lots of greenery. It just makes you smile by looking at it.
They have an ice cream shop to the left, and a small outdoor seating space to the right. I have been to the ice cream shop a couple of times, but we always went in from the back door, so I never notices how lovely it looks from the front. I believe the cafe is still kind of new, as I never noticed it before when I visited the ice cream shop in the past.
The back entrance is more quiet and does not have that cheerful yellow color. They have much bigger outdoor seating area with picnic tables. They were painting the picnic tables, so they were pushed to the side on this day, but they have about five tables on regular days.
We decided to have a breakfast there the next morning. We walked in from the back door, and the ice cream shop was closed (as it was early morning), but there were a few people there having breakfast. The ice cream shop and cafe share the small dining room.
They have nice, comfortable booth seating, with lots of memorabilia everywhere. It is very cozy and homey. It does match the exterior, warm and inviting. Even though they don’t have lots of seating, but the turnover is rather quick. As this is not a restaurant, people don’t take too long of a time eating here.
It has nice high wood ceiling, holding a cute painting of beaver holding a cup of Java welcoming everyone. No air conditioning, but it had ceiling fan that was doing a good job circulating fresh air.
The cafe is to the left of the dining room, and the menu is neatly written on the large blackboard. They serve breakfast and lunch, and the menu with description is all there. At the end of the board is the ordering counter, with their kitchen in the back.
They have few baked goods like cookies right next to the register. They also have a special menu of the day there, so make sure to check that out before you order. They have counter seating in this room, next to the ordering counter and also in front of the window.
We put in our orders, and went around to the dining room and got one of their booth table. Each table had old photographs laminated on the top, which was really cool. They have a short description of the location, so you know what you are looking at.
We started with a couple of coffee. We ordered one small and one large Cafe Latte. The size of the small cup is about the size of their water cup. It was just the right size for me. The large was really large, my hubby had hard time finishing them.
They have a water tank there if you want water instead of coffee, or in addition to whatever you are drinking. I always appreciate a place where they offer free water that is easily accessible.
Now the food. We ordered Sweet Potato Hash ($6+$2) and French Toast ($8.50).
Sweet Potato Hash is made with roasted sweet potatoes topped with fresh baby arugula and two eggs. There was an option to add choice of meat for $2, so I added sausage, making it to be $8. I asked the eggs to be cooked Sunny side up. It also had an orange wedge. The portion was pretty big, with lots of fresh arugula. The sausage patties were good size too, although it was nothing really special, but nice and comforting.
The egg was cooked just the way I like, with egg porn going on my plate… Sweet potato hash was ok, soft and potato-y, and healthier than traditional hash made with regular potato. Not amazing, but it was again comforting. It was a really big plate, enough to share among two people unless you are super hungry.
French Toast is made with pan Portuguese sweet bread, topped with butter and powered sugar. It is served with pure Vermont maple syrup. The bread like regular bread slices. We were imagining something more fancy or different, as Portuguese sweet bread usually looks a little different from regular American bread. And it looked like they cut the slice in half, so it actually had two pieces of sliced bread in total. Maybe giving a half of something is what they do for this plate, as it also came with a half strawberry. Hmmmm… Overall, it was tasty but not amazing.
So, we did like the cute little cozy cafe. The food is not amazing or incredible, but comforting and affordable. I liked the atmosphere more than anything else. They don’t have a big breakfast menu, but have the basics and I can see the ingredients are fresh. Their lunch menu looked interesting, I may go back to try some of their lunch offerings next time.
