This is my second review of the Yankee Stadium. You can read my first review at: http://www.foodlovergirl.com/yankee-stadium/
Even though I am not a huge fan of baseball, going to a baseball stadium and watch the game right in front of you is always a fun experience. And even more so, the new Yankee Stadium offers more than just the game and food. The Yankee Stadium opens its doors 2 hours before the game actually begins. If you want to get the full experience, you should get there when the door opens, or at least 1 hour before the game starts, especially if you want to visit the Monument Park.
Monument Park is located in center field, and it features all the great former Yankee. The park opens when the Yankee Stadium gate opens (2 hr before the game begin), and remains accessible until 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of the game. So, if you get there with not so much time left to visit the park, go straight to the park before you go look for your seats. There are collection of monuments, plaques, and retired numbers honoring distinguished members of the Yankee. This year (2015), with the passing of Yogi Berra, there were extra attention around his plaque and numbers with flowers. There is also a 9/11 monument to remember the innocent victims and first responders as well.
After you get the whole experience of the Monument Park, you can then get to your seats, relax, enjoy the game while getting some munches! This time, we got Philly Cheese Steak, one with just cheese, and others with peppers. Also, we got and garlic fries, with and without cheese sauce. The Philly cheese Steak is really big and filling, and even though it is a “stadium food” (not restaurant quality food), but they do pretty good job of it. The beef was juicy, tender, and had nice flavor to it. Adding the peppers can make it even more filling, and adds extra flavor and texture.
The garlic fries are one of the most popular items at the Yankee Stadium, and it is really garlic-y, which is great for garlic lovers. Ont thing to note, even though they offer different sizes, they are all about the same size…and they are really plenty of amount, you definitely want to share that instead of having the whole thing to your self. And, don’t forget some serious mints afterwards… I really like those fries, with and without cheese, they are soft and tasty, I really like garlic so I can eat a whole lot of them!
During the game, you can also take a break from your seats and go visit the Yankee museum. This museum features rotating exhibits on key players, events and themes in Yankee history. You can see Trophies from the Yankee’s World Series championships, the “Ball Wall,” which contains more than 870 baseballs autographed by Yankee players, coaches, managers, broadcasters and executives, and you can also get your own locker with your name on the top!
And then, you can walk by the Turkey Hill to get soft serves in a Yankee helmet cup! They have vanilla, chocolate or twist, with 1 topping of your choice for $6.75. We got one with waffle pieces, and another one with M&Ms. They are super awesome and must-have at the Yankee Stadium!
I always have good time at the Yankee Stadium, I can’t wait for the next season! Next year, you might want to plan a day at the Yankee Stadium for some ball game, history, and food!
