I was looking for a lunch spot in SoHo area, and I found an interesting spot called YUBU. It is a small Korean casual eatery, and they focus on Yubushobap. They have a good amount of seating, including a cute little window seating too.
What I didn’t know is that yubu means “tofu skin” in Korean. Yubuchobap is a Korean style inari sushi. I learn something new every day. They had a wax version of their food, as well as many pictures, so that you know what they would look like before you order.
They have a few different box set you can order. You choose the number of Yubu in the box, and then choose the toppings. We went with the YUBU Box of 8, with any 8 toppings. They have total of 14 different toppings. We looked at all the toppings, and chose top 4 toppings that we wanted, and ordered two of each. It is not an easy item to share, so that made it easy to try each flavors. The set came with two lollipops, which was cute.
The first topping of choice was Beef Bulgogi, which is Stir-fried Marinated Beef Bulgogi. It was juicy with sweet beef bulgogi. The bottom part is filled with sushi rice, which is sweet and vineigared rice. It was quite tasty.
Second one was Spicy Chicken Cheese, with Stir-fried Korean Spicy Marinated Chicken Thigh with Cheese. It had a nice kick to it, but not too spicy. It had small chunks of chicken, coated nicely with tasty sauce. Didn’t get much cheese flavor somehow, maybe the marinate overpowered the mild cheese flavor.
The third choice was Pork Jaeyook, Stir-fried Korean Spicy Marinated Pork. We enjoy having spicy pork at Korean eateries, so we were very interested in this one. The flavor was very similar to the Spicy Chicken Cheese, I wonder if they use the same spicy marinate? It was a bit difficult to distinguish between the two. We did still enjoy this one a lot.
The last one was Salmon (Torched), Fresh Raw Salmon Slight Blowtorch Sear. This one was really good. Torched just right so that they are not completely cooked. With that, the inside stays moist, not dry. It was really tasty.
We enjoyed our experience at YUBU. The staff was friendly and efficient. People kept coming in while we were there, seems like a popular spot among the locals. We never had Korean style inari before, so it was really interesting. We already love Japanese inari, we really enjoyed their version as well. The spicy marinated meats kind of tasted the same, so I would like to try something different the next time. If you want to try some Yubushobap, head over to YUBU.
